Buying Points
When you books a points + cash IHG award, you pay a cash portion to make up for using less points. At some properties it is possible to pay $85 to save 15,000 points. If you book such an award and then cancel, the extra 15,000 points are deposited into your account in lieu of a cash refund.

what kind of elite do you have to be to get this discount? No discounts for SFO SEA HNL. $40 or $70 + points. I’m platinum. Are they only available for certain hotels like only outside the US?
Platinum is good enough. The Loyalty Traveler post used a hotel in Monterey, CA which I was able to get to work as well. If you never plan on staying in the hotel then it doesn’t matter where it is.
So it seems like only applies to certain hotels. Gotta figure out how to use my sign up bonus now. Lol
