IHG has announced a limited time discount on Points & Cash reservations, offering a 10% discount on the cash portion of the rate.

IHG Points & Cash

The Deal

  • Book by June 24, 2018.
  • For stays between June 24, 2018 to August 15, 2018.
  • IHG Rewards Club members must be logged in to receive 10% savings.
  • 10% discount is offered at time of booking and only pertains to the cash cost of bookings.
  • Bookings for The Venetian and The Palazzo hotels are excluded from discounts.

Quick Thoughts

If you were already planning on booking a Points & Cash rate – or want to buy IHG points at a discount – a 10% discount is an added bonus. Note that although you can make reservations right now, the offer is only available for stays from June 24 to August 15.

The usual Points & Cash discounts are as follows:

  • 5,000 points = $40
  • 10,000 points = $70
  • 15,000 points = $99
  • 20,000 points = $125

With this discount, you’d be getting the following discounts:

  • 5,000 points = $36
  • 10,000 points = $63
  • 15,000 points = $89
  • 20,000 points = $112

IHG Points & Cash discount

If you booked a rate with the maximum discount of 20,000 points per night, you’d effectively be paying 0.56cpp. If you cancel your Points & Cash booking, IHG Rewards Club credits those 20,000 points per night to your account rather than refunding the $112 per night.

IHG recently offered a 100% bonus when purchasing points which meant you could buy them for 0.5cpp, so this opportunity isn’t quite as good. However, if you need some IHG points for a specific redemption, this offer can still provide great value.

For example, if you booked three nights at a hotel using the maximum Points & Cash rate and subsequently cancelled the reservation, you’d get 60,000 points for a cost of $336. We’re currently staying in a Candlewood Suites which we booked using 15,000 points per night. If we’d bought those points using this offer, we’d effectively have paid $84 per night. The nightly rate for this Candlewood Suites when I made the reservation was $150.77, so we’d have saved 44% versus paying cash.

As the terms note, you have to be logged in to your account in order to see the discount.
