Key Terms:
- To participate in the “2,000 Points Every 2 Nights” Promotion (the “Promotion”), an individual must have an active, valid IHG One Rewards member account and must register for the Promotion. Members can pre-register for this Promotion from 27 September 2023 to 11 October 2023 (the “Pre-Registration Period”). Members will be able to stay and earn IHG One Rewards bonus points under this Promotion beginning 12 October 2023 and ending on 31 December 2023 (the “Promotion Period”). Members who did not register during the Pre-Registration Period may register for the Promotion during the Promotion Period. A member can only register once. By registering for the Promotion, a member is accepting these Terms & Conditions.
- After registering for the Promotion, a member can earn 2,000 bonus points for every two (2) qualifying room night stays during the Promotion Period. The points earned during the 2,000 Points Every 2 Nights Promotion can be used toward Reward Nights, can be redeemed for merchandise, or can be used for other redemption opportunities, as permitted under the IHG One Rewards programme. The time needed for awarding points can vary with each promotion, so please allow up to 6 weeks for any earned bonus points to be posted to the recipient’s account.
- To be a qualifying room night under the Promotion, the room night must fall within the Promotion Period and must be part of a Promotion Eligible Qualifying Stay. As stated, the “Promotion Period” is from 12 October 2023 to 31 December 2023. Room nights outside of the Promotion Period are not included, and room nights that are part of a stay that was completed prior to registration for the Promotion also are not included.
- For purposes of the Promotion, a “Promotion Eligible Qualifying Stay” is defined as a minimum one (1) night stay at a participating hotel booked under a Qualifying Rate, with total spend exceeding US $30 (or local currency equivalent) for each night.
- Stays booked using Rewards Nights or Points & Cash are not Promotion Eligible Qualifying Stays for purposes of this Promotion.
- Bookings made through on-line travel agencies or other reservation sites such as booking.com or expedia.com also do not qualify under this Promotion. (For additional details on Qualifying Rates, please see the full IHG One Rewards Membership Terms and Conditions.)
- If more than one member who registered for the Promotion checks into the same room, only one member is eligible to earn points under the Promotion for those nights that qualify.
- If a member books more than one room on the same night, the member will receive credit towards this Promotion for only one of the rooms that also meets the requirements of a qualifying room night under the Promotion.
Further terms for IHG cardholders:
- Cardmembers in the United States with an IHG One Rewards Credit Card from Chase who registered for the current IHG One Rewards “2,000 Points Every 2 Nights” promotion have been automatically registered for this additional promotional offer (the “Cardmember Offer”). Under this Cardmember Offer, an additional 2,000 IHG One Rewards bonus points will be awarded to qualifying cardmembers after the cardmember has completed two (2) qualifying room night stays. In tandem with the “2,000 Points Every 2 Nights” promotion (the “Promotion”), the cardmember will receive 4,000 total bonus points every 2 nights throughout the campaign period.
Quick Thoughts
2,000 IHG One Rewards points can often be bought for $10 when IHG sells their points for 0.5cpp. Earning that many points for every two nights you stay is therefore hardly a stellar deal, but it’s always worth registering for these promotions even if you don’t currently have any plans to stay with IHG through the end of the year in case you end up having to make an unexpected booking in future weeks/months.
Note that this promotion is only valid on paid stays, not stays booked using points and/or Points & Cash. That’s a shame as I have an 8 night award stay coming up during the promotion period, but it’s not worth converting that to a paid stay for the sake of 8,000 bonus points.
Seeing as this promo is only valid on paid stays, be sure to click through to IHG from a shopping portal to earn cashback/rewards. Also keep an eye out for the Holiday Inn and Holiday Inn Express Citi Offers and SimplyMiles deals, as well as Chase Offers for various different IHG brands including Holiday Inn, InterContinental and Kimpton.
If I use points but the resort fees exceed $30 per night, Will I qualify for the promotion?
Resort fees don’t matter. The terms explicitly say that any stay involving points don’t qualify.
“Stays booked using Rewards Nights or Points & Cash are not Promotion Eligible Qualifying Stays for purposes of this Promotion.”
I think that I still have yet to run into a situation where the cash price for an IHG stay is low enough for me to book with cash instead of points, even with these promos that IHG runs. Have you ever found one where cash made sense, Stephen (or anyone else)?
Very rarely, although there have been a few occasions, particularly in instances where we’re not staying four nights and so can’t get the 4th night free.
There’s have also been occasions where booking with points is the best option for the most part, but points earned from a paid stay and cashback through a shopping portal (especially when Capital One Shopping is offering 10%-20% cashback on a targeted basis) makes things much more close or possibly tipping in favor of a paid stay slightly.
I think the only time it makes sense to use cash is when you don’t have points and you’re unable to buy them because you’ve reached the annual limit of purchasing them.
