Quick Thoughts
These are solid rates for Dell Technologies purchases. Keep in mind that you can choose to earn either cash back or Amex Membership Rewards points through Rakuten. If you value those points at more than 1c per point (our Reasonable Redemption Value is 1.55c per point), then Rakuten would be the better choice, but if you’re after cash back then you may as well get that extra 1% via TopCashBack.

Gotta wonder about the ABP credits after June 30th.
You guys have to stop promoting Rakuten.com. They are thieves! I have lost my cashback close to $1000 per quarter. You literally have to beg to get your hard earned cashback. I have approached small claim court against them. If you don’t trust me then read their reviews on trustpilot.com.
That stinks to hear. Many of us have not had issues which is why you see it promoted a lot. I’ve had more issues with TopCashBack and AAdvantageShopping not tracking than Rakuten – and Rakuten was prompt to fix it on the only item that did not track automatically for myself.
Same here. 2-3 million points on Rakuten without a major problem. AA regularly has a problem.
I think the FM team would say the problem is more likely the store rather than Rakuten itself. For example, Motley Fool was notorious for not paying. I’d be curious as to what stores you’re buying from, etc
Hi Andrew,
I’m sorry to hear of your negative experience with TopCashback! Typically transactions don’t track due to not regularly clearing cookies & cache, having ad blockers on, having too many tabs open while shopping or clicking around while shopping. If a transaction ever doesn’t track, the best option is to submit a Missing Cash Back Claim and we can follow up on that for you.
Best wishes,
Erica
I agree. I stopped using them coz they would eat up half of my cashback every qtr. I use CapitalOne shopping portal now.
I had to fight for my money from Rakuten. The very last for me was when I asked them about my lastest purchase they said it didn’t “track correctly” and/or the offer terms were not met (your choice depending who I contacted). I showed them the offer, my screen shot of purchase and confirmation from them of said purchase, meeting the terms as laid out. They responded since I had all the documentation they would honor it this time only as a courtesy. This happened far too much with them so I stopped using them.
Sorry to hear of negative experiences here! As others have noted, we use portals all the time and rarely have issues with most of them. Rakuten is among the most highly-regarded. Usually, when things go wrong, it’s either something in your browser stealing a cookie (like an extension installed in the same browser where you’re making your purchase) or a problem with how the merchant tracks and reports purchases. 25.5% through email offer on C1
But don’t you only get to cash out capital one shopping cash back for a few select gift cards?
ye that’s why they usually offer 10% higher
Ok thanks!
I wouldn’t really call it “a few select” gift cards. At the time of writing this comment, there are 73 different gift card redemption options. Here are some that I’ve used most often or think that others would be likely to use:
-DoorDash
-UberEats
-GrubHub
-Hotels.com
-StubHub
-Kroger
-Safeway
-Walmart (availability of this comes and goes)
-CVS
-Celebrity Cruise Lines
-ebay
