Barclaycard has sent out an interesting email advertising up to 20 miles per dollar when I use my Aviator card through AAdvantage eShopping. Initially, I assumed it was just some marketing encouraging me to shop through AAdvantage, but upon further inspection it looks as if they are actually offering large increased bonuses for Aviator card holders at Staples, eBags, and Sak’s Fifth Avenue when shopping through AAdvantage eShopping — up to 20 miles per dollar at eBags.com, starting today, which could pair well with Cyber Monday sales.
The Deal
- Extra American AAdvantage miles for Aviator card holders from November 27th through December 3rd
- Earn up to 20 miles per dollar
- Direct link to promo
Key Terms
- Valid for purchases from 12:01am November 27th to 11:59pm ET December 3, 2017
Quick Thoughts
This looks like a nice deal. It may be targeted, but I’m not sure. The link above takes you to the splash page, where you’ll need to click “shop now”. There are only three retailers participating, but the payouts are pretty good:
While 20x at eBags isn’t utterly showstopping, it’s a very good payout — especially if you’re pairing it with items that are already-discounted for Cyber Monday or Tumi luggage that’s already on a semi-annual sale. When I click through the link there to eBags, however, it only shows 10x – the public rate today:
That leads me to believe that the extra bonus will come for Aviator card holders. It’s unclear as to whether or not you have to use your Aviator card to get the bonus — the email suggests that you have to shop through AAdvantage eShopping and use your Aviator card:
Of course, maybe you also earn 20x when you use another card for purchases at select merchants. We’d suggest using your Aviator card just in case.
In addition to the payout at eBags, 6x at Staples is pretty rare. Looking at the best rate history on CashBackMonitor.com, it looks like 6x or better has come around a few times but certainly isn’t common:
Bottom line
This is an interesting promo. With the ability stack either the Amex Offer for $25 back on $125 or the Chase Offer for $20 back on $100 with 20x American Airlines AAdvantage miles, you could do pretty well on an eBags purchase today. It’s unclear as to whether this is targeted — if you received the email, I suggest clicking through the link in that email just in case.
I was targeted, but was only given 10 miles. Tried shopping portal customer service a couple times, they flat out claimed they only gave 10 miles. Do you know any other resort I can claim it back? Bought several pricy tumi, so this does make a difference
Did you email the AA portal customer service with a screen shot of the email advertising this deal? If not, I’d also follow up with Barclaycard customer service. When I hover over the sender of the email, it shows this contact info with a Barclaycard logo:
barclaycard
email@offers.aviatormastercard.com
(866) 928-3075
I assume the email inbox isn’t attended, but it might be worth a call and/or secure message to Barclaycard since they sent out the offer. The terms also state:
Please allow 6 to 8 weeks for bonus miles to post to your AAdvantage eShoppingSM account
It hasn’t yet been 8 weeks since I posted this deal, so I suppose it is also theoretically possible that the “bonus” miles will just post separately, but I can’t say for sure.
…any datapoints on buying GC at Ebags and still earning the promotional miles?
[…] Interesting: 20x at eBags, 6x at Staples with Aviator card [Targeted?] […]
I did get the email, so I guess I was amongst the targeted. I have no need for eBags, but 6X at Staples is slightly tempting. Alas, the terms include this exclusion:
“Returns, cancellations, shipping and handling, taxes, gift card purchases, and certain products are not eligible.”
I’ve never used AAdvantage eShopping before. Anyone know if the notable exclusion mentioned above is actually enforced, or just boilerplate?
Didn’t get the email.. but showing up the rate when I login
This is definitely targeted. I have logged into my AAdvantage shopping account and am not seeing those rates, nor did I receive the email. ;-(
