Today Lyft has announced that Lyft Pink members have access to a new benefit: free GrubHub+, which includes unlimited free delivery and some other benefits. That’s particularly good news for those with the Chase Sapphire Reserve since those cardholders gained free Lyft Pink membership early this year.
Quick Thoughts
This will be a nice change for those who live in markets served by multiple delivery services. The war for your restaurant delivery business continues to heat up with constant promotions from GrubHub, DoorDash, and UberEats. Chase Sapphire Reserve cardholders already have complimentary DoorDash DashPass, which offers free delivery and discounts from participating restaurants on orders of $12 or more, but now they gain access to similar benefits from GrubHub+ with free delivery and member perks at 200,000 restaurants around the US. To be clear, this isn’t a direct benefit offered by Chase, but rather Chase Sapphire Reserve cardholders can activate free Lyft Pink membership through March 2022.
It may be time for Greg to go another round on his food fight post of earlier this year. That said, GrubHub was already looking pretty good in that battle pre-tip, so this should theoretically just make them a bit better. I’d be curious to see results.
One potential win here would be for Chase Sapphire Reserve cardholders who are also Amex Gold cardholders. That’s because you could have a free Lyft Pink membership with your Sapphire Reserve. That status is essentially matched over to GrubHub+. Since the Amex Gold card offers a $10 monthly credit for GrubHub (and there is currently an Amex Offer out for $5 back on $20+ up to two times), you could probably stack free delivery with Amex Gold benefits to save a bit more.

[…] Sapphire Reserve extended free Lyft membership: Sapphire Reserve cardholders who sign up by Oct 31 (or have previously signed up) for a free year of Lyft Pink membership will keep their membership for 5 additional months (a total of 17 months). Details here. This is particularly noteworthy now that Lyft has partnered with Grubhub to offer Pink members free GrubHub+. […]

This post overlooks the fact that the same sandwich that costs $9.99, for example at the restaurant, costs $11.99 on Grubhub.
