American Airlines and Hyatt aren’t the only airline/hotel combo announcing reciprocal benefits today. Air Canada Aeroplan and Marriott Bonvoy have launched a new partnership which offers status holders in one program status in the other.
The Deal
- Aeroplan and Marriott Bonvoy members can match their status with the other program.
- Direct link to registration for those with Aeroplan status.
- Direct link to registration for those with Marriott Bonvoy status.
Key Terms
- Must have eligible status in one of the programs.
Quick Thoughts
This is a great new opportunity to expand your status if you have status with one or the other programs. For those with Aeroplan 50K, 75K or Super Elite status, you can link your account with your Marriott account to receive Gold status. For those with Marriott Titanium or Ambassador status, you can link that with your Aeroplan account to receive 25K status.
Marriott Gold status isn’t a very meaningful status. Although you’re eligible for late checkout, room upgrades, etc., I wouldn’t count on receiving much seeing as many properties will likely have Platinum, Titanium and Ambassador members to prioritize above Gold members.
Earning 25K status for being a Marriott Titanium or Ambassador member though is potentially much more rewarding. That’s because it includes two free checked bags, priority check-in, preferred seating and more; you can find the full list of benefits here.
What’s particularly useful about this partnership is that you’ll maintain the reciprocal status for as long as you have status in the other program – it’s not some kind of short term status match or status challenge.
I have Titanium status with Marriott and so linked that to my Aeroplan account. The confirmation message stated that it could take a couple of days to see that reflected on my account, but within about 30 minutes I received an email confirming my Aeroplan status had been upgraded. Sure enough, when logging in it’s showing that I have 25K status through the end of 2025.
I’ve no idea how much I’ll be able to make use of 25K status, but getting it for free is better than nothing, plus it might open up another status match opportunity in the future with a different airline. As a result, if you’re eligible for one of these matches, it’s worth linking your two accounts.
Update: A couple of days after obtaining my status match, I received an email from Aeroplan asking me to select my two status benefits. I wasn’t sure before if people matching from Marriott would be eligible for these benefits when first publishing this post, but sure enough they are. Here are the options you’ll get to choose from; you’re not able to choose two of the same benefit, so you can’t get four lounge passes or 10 eUpgrade Creidts:
If I wait until 2025 to match my Marriott Titanium to Aeroplan, will my 25k status last until 2026?
As someone about to hit Titanium–and therefore get United Silver–is there any benefit to this? Will this get me anything United Silver doesn’t?
If you’ll be flying Air Canada, the eUpgrades could come in handy.
Did your Aeroplan number reveal the whole map?
Hi Steven
I’m both Titanium and 25K already and wanted to pass on tips for the elite benefits. You’ll get 20 upgrade certificates and then can choose to get 5 more – this is pretty much what anyone with AP status will take – the additional eups.
For 25K it isn’t easy to have upgrades clear on cash fares BUT they are fantastic for award fares. Lots of folks will book an Economy Latitude award and then apply upgrades and clear into Business right away on international flights. I personally like to apply them to PE awards and then bump up – it’s a great way to stretch your points and still book Business. This year I used them to fly YVR to KIX in Business for 40000 points, and also YVR to LHR for 50000.
Sigh – I can’t edit on my phone but massive apologies for the auto-correct on your name!
No problem! And thanks for the additional info regarding using the eUpgrades 🙂
I’m Aeroplan 35k and Marriott Platinum, so it’s just out of the range of being useful.
Aeroplan 35k is 1 tier short of being eligible for a match, and it would only be to Marriot gold (vs my current Platinum status)
Marriott Platinum is 1 tier short of being eligible for a match, and it would only be to Aeroplan 25k (vs my current 35k status).
I am seeing (from the Marriott side)
The Aeroplan® account is invalid. [Error code: P4029]
Please check the number and try again. Or call the Aeroplan®
Anyone have an idea? I am copying the number from the aircanada site
I am receiving the same error code as well. Don’t know of any solution as of yet.
Update: I was finally able to successfully link my Bonvoy account and my Aeroplan account.
As @Dan mentioned, the names on both accounts have to exactly match. I had to call Marriott and get my middle name added to my Bonvoy account so that it would exactly match the name on my Aeroplan account. Unfortunately, that alone wasn’t enough to get my accounts linked.
I called Aeroplan about the issue and was told that my Aeroplan account was currently flagged for “suspicious activity”. I suspect that the account flag was triggered by multiple attempted AwardWallet updates. After answering a few security questions, the CSR removed the flag and asked me to try to link the accounts again. Presto, the account link worked and the Aeroplan 25K status was activated immediately.
Hope this DP is helpful to someone.
I’m getting
The Aeroplan® account is invalid. [Error code: P4026]
From the Marriot side. Called Aeroplan and was told it was because my middle initial was on the Air Canada side but not on the Marriot side. They removed the middle initial from the Aeroplan side. I tried again and it still didn’t work. They asked that I wait until tomorrow because it’s possible the update needed some batch processes to run overnight. If it doesn’t work tomorrow, try calling Marriot. 🙂
If any figure this out, I would love to know!
Thanks, worked instantly. I was logged into Air Canada at the same time, refreshed the page and already 25K
Sounds like the same kind of offer as RewardsPlus (United/Bonvoy).
I swear Stephen is the only one that even works at this site anymore…
Bummer that this isn’t available to Marriott Platinum, although I get the reasoning.
Same, wish it was available to Platinum based on elite nights rather than holding the Brilliant card at least. But it matches the United Silver benefit. Never fly United so that was pretty meaningless but Air Canada is a once or twice a year flight that would be great for bags and eUps.
If a long term benefit makes the math on getting Titanium status a little more worthwhile.
Stephen, I think you should delete/hide you aeroplan number
Don’t worry, that’s actually Jenny’s #. 🙂
And now we know who was around in the 80’s and who wasn’t.
Like others have noted, that’s not my Aeroplan number.
Anyone else getting Error code: P4028? Says to call AC but they have no clue what I’m talking about or how to help
I’m getting error P4027 lol. My name isn’t identical on both sides. I imagine support from AC or Marriott will be pretty useless trying to resolve errors with this.
Called both AC and Marriott, they have absolutely no clue what to do lol

I was able to log a ticket with Marriott (where I have status) they said it’s because a suffix is spelled out in their system. They said that that have logged the Aeroplan number on their side. Turns out that does nothing though because Aeroplan still shows no status. I’ve been calling Aeroplan for weeks and can’t get through to speak to anyone. If I do the option for a call back I never receive one. This is the number I’ve called. If you find a different number I would love to know it! Good luck!

Stephen, as a practical matter, if someone only flies business class and only books with points, is there any incremental benefit to Aeroplan tier status? That is, above benefits received via the business class booking. Thanks in advance for your thoughts.
When calling Air Canada, quicker access to assistance due to status within the Aeroplan program could be an added benefit.
Only flies business class and only books with points is my general travel profile but in July prices were ridiculous for a city pair I needed. I ended up redeeming AC points for a Latitude reward and waitlisting for business with e-upgrades. All three of us cleared on both segments a couple weeks out. My 25K status is from the Chase cobrand card.
In that kind of scenario, I’m not seeing anything particularly worthwhile that you’d be eligible for.
Yes – you’ll get 20 eupgrades certs and opt to get 5 more. You can book awards for less points in PE and then use the certs to bump up to business – you save a chunk of points – they only apply to AC metal and not partner awards.
Thanks. Just linked my Marriott Titanium to get AC 25K. And it was updated on AC side within one min.
