Quick Thoughts

All six of these destinations have the potential to provide good value, but it’s worth comparing the mileage cost to the cash cost because you might decide it’s better to hold on to your miles if cash ticket pricing is low enough.

There appears to be good availability on at least some of the routes. For example, here’s New York to Dublin – there’s availability every day during the first two weeks of May:

That low pricing and great award availability is also bookable from the west coast – here’s what it looks like from Los Angeles in the first half of May.

The terms of this Global Escapes promotion state that discounted awards are available on both economy and premium economy flights. There appears to be no shortage of availability in economy, but I struck out trying to find discounted premium economy awards to any of the six destinations. That’s not to say that it’s not out there, but I didn’t find any based on my limited searches.

I guess I lucked out yesterday when I tried to find Econ flights from SFO to KEF (ICELAND) via SEA. Was pleasantly surprised the one way flight was at 17500 + $138 tax when previously I have been watching those flights and lowest I have ever seen was 27500 points. And this is peak summer 6/29 for 8 seats traveling together! Didn’t know there was a promo going on! Unfortunately our flight from KEF to FCO is almost more expensive at 35000 pts or $250 nonstop!

Was tempted by the Dublin offer, but I keep reading terrible reviews of Aer Lingus’s TATL A321 economy flights. Has anyone had a good experience flying EI in economy? Inability to select seats easily is another reason to avoid EI.
