Qatar Airways Avios offering up to a 35% bonus when transferring from Citi ThankYou points

4

Qatar Airways has launched a new promotion that offers a 25% bonus when transferring points from Citi ThankYou Rewards. In addition, you can get another 10K bonus if you convert a total of 100,000 points into Avios in one transaction, for a total of 35% on 100K.

Multiple banks worldwide are eligible for the promotion, but the only major one in the US is Citi.

This promotion is pretty good, but it might not be worth it if you need the Avios immediately, as the bonus points might not be awarded until mid-November.

The Deal

  • Get a 25% bonus when transferring Citi ThankYou points to Qatar Airways Privilege Club.
    • Earn an additional 10K bonus on transfers of 100K+ points for a total of 35%.
    • Expires 10/31/24
  • Direct link to offer.

Key Terms

  • Expires October 31, 2024.
  • The bonus Avios awarded will be 25% of the number of base Avios converted in a single transaction. Members will also get 10,000 additional bonus Avios for every 100,000 Avios converted from Rewards Points in a single transaction during the Campaign Period.
  • The bonus Avios will be calculated per transaction and not on the cumulative sum of base Avios converted from rewards points during the campaign period.
  • All bonus Avios earned will be reflected in your Privilege Club account by 15 November, 2024.

Quick Thoughts

This transfer bonus is being offered by Qatar Airways directly, so you won’t see any mention of it when logging in to your Citi ThankYou account.

A 25% bonus is a decent offer, especially if you add in the additional 10K that you get for a 100,000 point transfer. However, note that the 25% bonus Avios (and presumably the additional 10K on 100K) might not appear in your account until November 15th.

That means that if you’re needing to book an award with Qatar Airways, you’ll likely need to transfer in all the miles you need on a 1:1 basis unless you’re happy to wait up to 6 weeks (depending on when you transfer) for the bonus Avios. It might be that Qatar Airways Privilege Club will process the bonuses far more quickly, but there’s no guarantee that’ll happen.

Turned 100k TYP into 135k Avios + 10k TYP by using my rewards+ card 🙂

As I read it, you convert 80,000 points for 100,000 avios, then get another 10,000 avios, so your effective bonus is 37.5% for that exact transfer amount?
