These rates of return can be excellent considering the fact that you can earn them in the form of Amex Membership Rewards points by linking an eligible Amex account to Rakuten and choosing to earn points instead of cash back and because you are still making your bookings directly with the travel brands included.
for instance, if you clicked through on Rakuten’s IHG link, you would still earn IHG points and credit toward elite status for your stay. Keep in mind of course that bookings made through Hotels.com will not provide such benefit, but the return could nonetheless be compelling in the right scenario.
Do compare against other portals. I have recently had targeted offers as high as 20% back on IHG and 25% at Best Western.
