Follow along here!

Air Canada Aeroplan miles can now be redeemed online for awards on Cathay Pacific and GOL. The partnership with Cathay Pacific is very limited, so you’ll only be able to redeem on some connecting flights beyond Hong Kong, but it does make it easier to reach a number of destinations in Asia if you’re able to snag an award ticket to Hong Kong.

Many of Cathay Pacific’s regional flights still have very nice business class seats.

Eligible Cathay Pacific Flights that can be booked with Aeroplan

As a reminder, there are only a few routes where Aeroplan miles can be redeemed for travel on Cathay Pacific. Those routes are between Hong Kong and:

  • Chiang Mai, Thailand
  • Phuket, Thailand
  • Bangkok, Thailand
  • Cebu, Philippines
  • Manila, Philippines
  • Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
  • Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam
  • Hanoi, Vietnam

To be clear, you can not redeem Aeroplan miles for long-haul Cathay Pacific routes — just the above routes to/from Hong Kong. Still, that may make it easier to reach the above destinations using Aeroplan miles.

What makes this nice is that, just as is the case with newly-added partner Etihad, you can mix these flights with those on other partners, giving you more options to get to where you need to go.

Eligible GOL flights that can be booked with Aeroplan

Brazil-based GOL airlines has of course suspended US flights for now, but when travel resumes this will add an interesting option for those looking to get to South America. GOL flights systemwide are eligible for redemption with Aeroplan. GOL apparently only operates business class (dubbed “GOL Premium”) on international routes.

Bottom line

Aeroplan continues to improve the functionality of its website. That makes sense given that they have said that they will unveil a new online system that will let you build your desired routes sometime after the new program launches in November. It makes sense that they have engineers working on this kind of functionality to bring all partners online down the road – it’s nice to see them launch it now even though most readers likely won’t be taking advantage of these specific new options in the near-term.

Kudos to Aeroplan for rolling this out… unlike Alaska Airlines where you still can’t book CX awards online after how many years?
