Update 11/2/19: The First Class flights are a little more expensive now, but the cheap economy fares are still available.

~

British Airways is having a great sale on round trip First Class flights from New York to Europe this winter and early spring. The best fares are selling very quickly, so jump on this deal ASAP if you’re interested.

On the other end of the spectrum, there are round trip flights in economy (not on British Airways) for less than $275.

First Class

BA NYC-FCO

The Deal

  • Get round trip First Class flights from the US to Europe for less than $2,500.

Key Terms

  • Available on select dates from November 2019 to March 2020.

Quick Thoughts

The cheapest fare I was able to find using Google Flights was Newark to Rome for $1,931 over the week of Christmas (see screenshot above). In theory, you could use the AARP discount to save an additional $200, but when clicking through to BA’s website that fare was no longer available.

If you’d like to visit Switzerland during Valentine’s Day, you can fly from New York to Zurich for just over $2,000.

BA NYC-ZRH

Another option is New York to Berlin for $2,113, although that involves flying on January 1. It leaves New York at 6:50pm though, so you’d have all day to recover from New Year’s Eve festivities.

BA NYC-TXL

That latter deal was still available when I published this post, so not all of the great deals are sold out. British Airways doesn’t operate First Class on their Heathrow to Berlin flights which means you’d be in the European version of Business class, so adjust expectations for that short flight accordingly.

There have apparently been some good flights out of Chicago too, but I had a hard time finding any. If that’s your local airport it’d be worth checking routes from there, but availability out of New York will likely dry up further in the meantime.

Economy

If ~$2,000 is too pricey for your budget, how about round trip flights in economy for only $273? I was able to get a round trip from Newark to Madrid for $238 for 40k To Far Away so this deal isn’t quite as good, but $273 is still an incredibly good price from the east coast.

For example, Iberia, American Airlines and United are all charging $273 for nonstop flights between New York and Madrid from December 4-11:

$273 NYC-MAD

You can get marginally cheaper flights in February as TAP is charging $267 on select dates in February. That includes a 3-9 hour layover in Porto though, so it might be worth paying a few bucks more for direct flights unless you want to spend a few hours exploring Porto.

$267 NYC-MAD

These flights are all in basic economy, so you’d have restrictions on your baggage allowance. If you can travel lightly though, this is a great deal.

The rates for flying Transpacific and Trans Atlantic are crazy cheap! No need to mess around with points and miles if a person is willing to fly economy class.

I think the Porto layover may be stretchable to a stopover? Might be worth trying a multi-city search with a stopover there in one direction.

You can fly Iberia round trip nonstop from JFK to Barcelona for $237. End of Nov/Early Dec.
