One of the prizes in American Airlines’ 40th anniversary celebration is a 20% discount on stays at dozens of Hyatt properties. This simply requires the use of promo code AA40TH and so can be used by anyone when booking a stay at a participating hotel.

This promo code is eligible at 45 different Hyatt properties, the majority of which are in the US; check View From The Wing’s post for the full list.
The 20% discount is taken off each property’s standard rate and so the discount isn’t 20% off the lowest available price seeing as there are usually member rates and other discounted rates available which are cheaper than the standard rate.
Having said that, using the promo code did produce a nightly rate which was the cheapest one available on many of the searches that I made. For example, there are at least four properties available in Phoenix area – the Hyatt Regency Phoenix, Tempe Mission Palms (a Destination property), The Scottsdale Resort (a Destination property) and the Hyatt Regency Scottsdale Resort & Spa.
With the Hyatt Regency Phoenix, the AA40TH promo code resulted in a rate $9 per night cheaper than the ‘Book Now & Save 15% Off’ rate ($161 per night was also the same as the AAA rate).
The Tempe Mission Palms meanwhile was $10 per night cheaper than that same ‘Book Now & Save 15% Off’.
The Scottsdale Resort pricing was similar to the Hyatt Regency Phoenix, with a promo rate of $152 per night versus $161 per night for the other cheapest rate.
The AA40TH promo code doesn’t always produce the lowest pricing though. For example, using the code to book a stay at the Hyatt Regency Scottsdale Resort & Spa produced a rate which was significantly lower than both the standard rate and member rate, but there was a ‘Stay 3 nights, get 4th night free’ rate which worked out an extra $30 per night cheaper.
I haven’t had a chance to check the pricing at all 45 eligible properties, but I suspect it’ll be a similar case where the promo code offers the lowest price at most of the eligible hotels but not all of them. This promo code is therefore a decent offer if you’re planning a paid stay at any of these properties by September 12, especially because the rate allows you to cancel 24 hours before check-in.
