Quick Thoughts

The discount you receive when using promo code SPLASH varies depending on which day you travel. Flights on Tuesdays and Wednesdays get 30% off, Sundays get 20% off and the other days of the week receive a 25% discount.

Based on the searches I did, it seems like another factor is that only nonstop flights seem to get a discount. Having said that, I didn’t run hundreds of searches and so it’s still worth checking the routes you’re interested in just in case you see something different. For example, when checking Indianapolis to Baltimore, the only option that gave a discount was the nonstop route.

Even then, not all nonstop flights are eligible. For example, here’s Norfolk to Baltimore – all are nonstop flights, but one of them doesn’t receive a discount. The terms state that “Discount availability may vary by destination, flight, and day of the week, and won’t be available on some flights that operate during very busy travel times and holiday periods”, so that’s presumably why.

Seeing as Southwest’s award flight costs are tied to the cash cost of the flight, the SPLASH promo code also serves to give 20%-30% off the number of Rapid Rewards points required to book a flight.

You have to use the promo code by February 29, but it’d be best to book ASAP as prices are likely to rise as the cheapest options get booked up, especially given how easily bookable and cancellable Southwest flights are. Speaking of which, if you have any existing travel booked during the promo period, it’s worth repricing those flights using code SPLASH in cash it lowers your cash and/or award costs.

Promo code not working for DAL-LAS 05/09

Adam

Stephen, thanks for this. I was able to save on one upcoming flight. And take note that the discount does seem to apply on at least one 1-stop flight: check out 7:55 pm LAS-LAX flight on 3/25. Can’t imagine who’d want that flight, though!

Promo code doesn’t work for SFO-IAH route.
