Late last week, Uber introduced a new function in their app: you can now add up to two extra stops on your route to pick up friends at multiple destinations.
This could be convenient when you need to pick up a couple of people. You can still split the fare, though only the full fare (you can’t split from a specific pick up point). To add multiple destinations, just hit the plus button as shown in the picture below before or during your ride.
I wondered if you could set multiple stops in order to run an errand or two. For example, say you need to stop at a store to pick up milk on your way home. I pulled up the app to see what this looks like and it reminded me to keep stops to 3 minutes or less — so it might be possible if you know your added stop won’t have a long line, but I think it’s mostly intended for picking up extra passengers.
Bottom line
This is a useful change. I could see this being very useful in situations where you either need to make a quick stop or need to pick up a friend en route to your destination. I’m not sure how the multiple stops affect pricing, but I think this adds some convenience to the ride-sharing app.
