Virgin America is sending out 25% off promotional codes to members who recently transferred in points for the JetBlue match promotion. As you can see in the picture above, they clearly make reference in a sly way.
The Offer
As a little thank you for transferring your points to Elevate, we’re offering 25% off fares fares when you book by August 29 and fly through October 15, 2016.
Key Terms
- This offer is valid for nonstop and connecting travel in non-refundable Main Cabin only; offer is not valid for any multi-city itineraries.
- Travel must occur between August 15, 2016 and October 15, 2016.
- One time use promo code is valid in Main Cabin only.
- Promo code is valid for a 25% discount off the base fare all days of week, except Sundays.
- Blackout dates are 9/2/16 and 9/5/16.
- Promo code applies to newly booked travel and may not be applied to prior bookings.
- Promo code discount will be deducted off of base fare.
- Base fares do not include Passenger Facility Charges of up to $9 each way, September 11th Security Fees of up to $5.60 per one way trip, where each one-way trip may include a connection or stopover between two domestic flights not exceeding 4 hours, and a Federal Segment Tax of $4.00 per domestic segment.
- Promo code may only be used for bookings made on virginamerica.com and is only valid on itineraries of up to 2 guests.
- Offer is not transferable and cannot be combined with any other offers.

Received one of these emails and thought what smart marketing to target these points transfers. After more thought it seems like they really botched this opportunity. JetBlue targeted their customers with a 75K points offer and virgin responds with a heavily restricted limited time 25% off offer. They should’ve put as much time into considering the offer as they did the tagline.
