The Virgin Red Rewards Mastercard normally has a welcome bonus of 60,000 points after $4,000 spend in your first 90 days. That bonus has been increased to 75,000 points after the same spend requirement, but this is a very limited time offer as it’s only due to be around until September 5.

Quick Thoughts
Virgin Atlantic Flying Club and Virgin Red are transfer partners of all six main transferable currencies: Amex, Chase, Citi, Capital One, Bilt and Wells Fargo. It’s therefore hard to make a case for applying for this card – and thus increasing your 5/24 count with Chase – solely for this 75,000 point welcome offer seeing as you can earn that many points or more in a transferable currency with many of those banks.
For someone who frequently flies with Virgin Atlantic though, or for someone interested in Virgin and/or SkyTeam elite status, this card could be worth getting and putting spend on. That’s because you can earn 25 Tier Points for every $2,500 you spend on the card, with a limit of 50 Tier Points per month. That means you can earn up to 600 Tier Points each year which is more than enough for Silver status in Virgin Atlantic Flying Club and 60% of the way to Gold status. Silver status gets you SkyTeam Elite status, while Gold status gets you SkyTeam Elite Plus status.
The Virgin Red card also offers your pick of one of the following benefits after $15,000 spend in a calendar year and a second after $30,000 spend in a calendar year:
- Voucher for companion seat or cabin upgrade
- One free night or suite upgrade at Virgin Hotels
- Up to $300 Bar Tab credit or Blue Extras perks package on Virgin Voyages
If you’re spending your way to status and can also make use of one or two of those big spend bonus rewards, this card becomes much more interesting.

It won’t let me apply – since I already have a Virgin rewards account – apparently you have to be a new rewards program member too.
Of course I just activated the card yesterday with the 60k offer :/
I don’t believe they match?
I’m not aware of Synchrony matching, but it doesn’t hurt to ask – worst case scenario they say no.
