Update: Many readers are reporting getting an email that the most expensive plan (~$161) has only tracked at 10,890 points, which is far less than expected at 120x. It seems based on the confirmation email that Nord is splitting up the charge into 3 separate products and Wyndham is only figuring 120x based on the first product (the Wyndham terms do indicate that you won’t receive rewards on additional products, it just isn’t clear in the NordVPN order flow that you’re buying separate products with the most expensive plan). See the breakdown on the email confirmation:

It seems like 120x is only being awarded on the NordVPN 2-year subscription. It isn’t clear to me which component(s) of the most expensive plan constitute the “Premium” 2-year subscription, but it seems that whatever they are and the 1TB NordLocker portion are add-ons. Therefore, I recommend only buying the $107 plan so that you should earn 120x on the whole thing.

The Wyndham Rewards shopping portal is currently offering 120 points per dollar for a NordVPN subscription. Even if you don’t value the VPN subscriptions, this is essentially like buying Wyndham points at a rate of 0.8c per point — and Nord has a couple of expensive subscription options that mean you could grab upwards of 19K points at that rate. See the update above.

The Deal

  • The Wyndham Rewards shopping portal is currently offering 120 points per dollar for a NordVPN subscription.
  • Direct link to this deal

Key Terms

  • Special rates are only available to new NordVPN customers. Rewards are not available on: additional products (NordPass and NordLocker) or refunded orders.

Quick Thoughts

This seems like an intriguing deal given that Wyndham points can easily be worth far more than 0.8c per point, particularly when used toward Vacasa vacation rentals.

This one is fun in part because Nord offers a couple of fairly expensive subscription options:

Update: Stick with the “standard” plan on the right. The “Complete” plan includes NordLocker (excluded) and NordPremium (seemingly excluded). I’m not sure whether “Plus” includes Premium, but buying standard seems like the safest bet based on reader reports in the comments and our own experience with this deal at Frequent Miler.

With the more expensive two-year option, you’d be earning north of 19K points for just over $161. That’s a solid deal.

The terms indicate that the payout is for new customers only. Since anybody in my family would be a new customer for Nord, I don’t know if, for example, my wife and I could both sign up separately as new customers by clicking through from the same Wyndham account but setting up two separate Nord accounts. At the very least, we should be able to both sign up through our respective Wyndham Shopping accounts.

Overall, this seems like a great deal. Just keep in mind that Wyndham isn’t great at math. I can almost guarantee that you’ll get some number of points that is almost 120x, but rare is the day when a Wyndham gets the math spot on.

Nick

Any data points on how long these points usually take to post after receiving the tracking email?

Joe

Can I buy more than on Nord for different people?

Mark Thomas

I did the $161 plan and only got the points on the VPN part as above. I signed onto my account and chatted with a rep. It was a pretty easy process to cancel and get a refund. Unfortunately, you can’t downgrade and strip off the other two products (Pass and Locker). I’m pretty sure Wyndham will claw back the points, but I’ll wait and see. What do you think the chances are of getting the points if I were to re-buy just the VPN after clicking through the portal again? They are still offering 120ppd. Probably best to wait for the cancellation to go through and see if the point disappear.

Ordered the $161 and got an email from Wynd saying they will give me 10,890 Points

man they suck at this….

Frank

Same here. Nick, you should note this in your post. Of course you have 30 days to cancel if you don’t like it. I also got 10,890 for $161.73 purchase. I will think about cancelling … but I do use (and like) NordVPN.

Johnny

That’s weird. I made a $107 purchase and got email saying I’m getting 12,000+ points

Frank

Hah! Well done.

Graham

“With the more expensive two-year option, you’d be earning north of 19K points for just over $161.”

For the $161 option, as far as I can tell, it adds NordPass and NordLocker, which are both called out as excluded:

“Special rates are only available to new NordVPN customers. Rewards are not available on: additional products (NordPass and NordLocker) or refunded orders.”

I’m not even sure if it’s called out that you are getting NordPass or NordLocker until checking your email order receipt…

Guess how I know :_( Out of my $161 order, only $87 tracked (approximately covering the NordVPN: 2-year subscription part) for 10k points.

NordVPN: 2-year subscription: $88.83/2 years
NordPass Premium: 2-year subscription: $32.40/2 years
NordLocker Premium 1TB: 2-year subscription: $40.50/2 years
Total: $161.73/2 years

So beware! If someone else found otherwise, pls do let us know.

Max

I did this yesterday, and it appears that the pending points are only for the value of the lowest tier. So, selecting the higher tier doesn’t give you any additional points back. So, I’ll probably go ahead and cancel for a refund within the 30 days.

This is mentioned in the terms, but not at all in a way that’s clear.

“Rewards are not available on: additional products (NordPass and NordLocker) or refunded orders.”

The additional tiers are basically adding NordPass and NordLocker. But, it doesn’t use those brand names at any point, so it’s unclear until after the purchase that that’s what you were paying the extra amount for.

Max

Here’s what it shows as pending (which is about right for the amount of the VPN only service).

04/16/2023 NordVPN US $87.00 Pending 10,440

Problem is, my actual purchase amount was for far more than the $87.

Here’s my receipt…

Mr. Seg

So 19,000 points = ~$1,520?

Mr. Seg

Ops, one 0 too many… by the way, is there a signup referral to this portal?

Johnny

Fantastic! Was planning to sign up with Nord today anyway, and once gain FM comes through, thanks!! You guys da best

Mark

I like the NordVPN service, if you actually want the VPN. There was a time (and maybe still is) when TopCashback was offering more than 100% cashback on Nord.

Mark

Got a warning when I clicked through the link on the Wyndham shopping portal that says:

Attackers might be trying to steal your information from visit.nordvpn.com (for example, passwords, messages, or credit cards).”

Mark

Nevermind, it was work’s net nanny…

Jason

When I click through I get Coupon code applied: easterdeal23.
That won’t take away from the the 120x from Wyndham rewards?

Ravi

If the goal is to get wyndham points then wondering why apply any coupons?

Jason

I didn’t apply any coupons. It applies by default when clicking through the link from Wyndham’s website with the 63% off or whatever it is. I suspect EVERYONE is seeing this coupon there?
