Wyndham Rewards is out with a new promotion that’s being marketed as a way to earn a $25 or $50 Shell gift card when booking stays of 2 or 3+ nights respectively.
The deal is much better than that though because you’re actually earning Wyndham Rewards bonus points and Shell gift cards are simply one redemption option.
The Deal
- Earn the following reward when booking a stay with Wyndham Rewards via mobile browser or in their app:
- 2 night stay = 7,500 bonus points
- 3+ night stay = 14,000 bonus points
- Direct link to registration.
Key Terms
- To qualify for this Offer, a Wyndham Rewards Member residing in the U.S. must:
- first register for the Offer by completing the registration process via wyndhamhotels.com/wyndham-rewards, wyndhamhotels.com, any of the official brand websites of any participating Hotel Chain, the Wyndham Hotels & Resorts App, the official toll free reservation number of Wyndham Rewards or any of the participating Hotel Chains, or the “My Promotions” section of his/her/their Wyndham Rewards Member account, in each case, between August 8, 2022 and August 14, 2022; then
- after registering but no later than August 14, 2022, book a Qualified Stay that meets the applicable length of stay minimum described above on (a) the Wyndham Hotels & Resorts App or (b) the Wyndham Hotels & Resorts mobile websites (i.e., the mobile versions of each of: the official brand website of each participating Hotel Chain, wyndhamhotels.com/wyndham-rewards and wyndhamhotels.com); and
- begin the stay no earlier than August 8, 2022 and complete it no later than September 30, 2022.
- Maximum of one (1) Bonus per Member, regardless of how many stays are completed by a Member during the Offer period. In the case of a registered Member who books and completes more than one (1) Qualified Stay in accordance with these Offer Terms, the Bonus awarded will be the one associated with the first of such stays to be processed. (For example, a Member who books and completes a 2 night stay, and subsequently a 3 night stay, in accordance with these Offer Terms, will receive only the Bonus for 7,500 Wyndham Rewards points.) A no-show will not count toward this Offer.
- For clarity, Members must register before booking and completing the applicable stay in order for it to count toward this Offer, and any stay with a check-in date before August 8, 2022, and/or a check-out date after September 30, 2022, will not be counted towards this Offer. Stays at Participating Caesars Rewards Properties (with the exception of those that are co-branded with Trademark Collection by WyndhamTM and Caesars), vacation club resorts and vacation rentals, are not eligible for this Offer. Go Fast and Go Free award stays are also not eligible for this Offer.
- A Member who is eligible to receive a Bonus pursuant to these Offer Terms will typically receive it within two to four weeks after the completion of the applicable Qualifying Activity.
- Bonus will be awarded in the form of Wyndham Rewards points, even to Members who have elected to earn airline miles in their Member profile (although their base earnings will continue to be awarded as miles).
Quick Thoughts
This type of promotion is why it always pays to read the terms of the promotion. The email from Wyndham Rewards states that you’ll earn a $25 or $50 Shell gift cards depending on how long you stay. The registration page for the promo also says you’ll earn a gas gift card and even the URL ends with /earn-a-free-gas-gift-card.
It’d therefore be reasonable to conclude that you’ll earn a gas gift card, but that’s not the case. The promotion is better than that because what you will in fact earn is 7,500 bonus points for a 2 night stay or 14,000 bonus points for a 3+ night stay. The gas card denominations simply refer to the number of points you’d need to redeem to get them – 7,500 points for a $25 Shell gift card or 14,000 points for a $50 gift card.
That makes this promotion even better than the way Wyndham is marketing it because 7,500/14,000 bonus points are worth more than $25/$50. Based on the Reasonable Redemption Value of Wyndham points, 7,500 points are worth $61.50 and 14,000 points are worth $114.80. As you can see, redeeming for gift cards is a poor choice.
Depending on how many upcoming stays you have, this deal could get even better. Wyndham Rewards has a separate promotion giving 7,500 bonus points when staying twice by September 6. If you have two stays before then and one of those is a 3+ night stay you book after registering for this new promo, you’ll end up with 21,500 bonus points on top of the base points you’ll earn for the stay.
Something important to note is that this latest promo requires that you not only register for it but that you book your stay either via their app or in a mobile browser.
If you’ll be paying for the stay with a Visa business credit card such as the Wyndham Rewards Earner Business card which currently has an increased welcome offer, be sure to link your card with Visa SavingsEdge in order to earn 4% cashback on your stay(s) in the form of a statement credit.
if i use points as payment for my stays, will that qualify?
No
Is this promo good on point stays?
Nope, the 3rd major bullet point above concludes with “Go Fast and Go Free award stays are also not eligible for this Offer.“.
See it now, thx so much
Quick calculation suggests that a Wyn Biz card holder, and thus Diamond, would be a break-even mileage run at the current RRV if you can find a place for $45-$50 depending on the tax rate. “Stay” 3 nights the first time, 1 night the 2nd, and all before Sep 06.
Obviously the numbers get a lot better if you actually have need for any of those nights. If nothing else, it might be a cheap place to take the kids for end-of-summer swimming even if you do not spend the night.
Thanks for the alert! Just have a trip coming up. Wish Wyndham has better locations in Munich 🙂
Well, I was trying to squeeze some more juice with BRG but Wyndham decides that their representative can create carve-outs on their own-suddenly EMEA doesn’t include Germany and Switzerland…I guess one warning is that Wyndham’s pricing of H-hotels (under trademark collections) are more expensive than booking direct as H-hotel member and Wyndham won’t match prices
