Update 4/2/19: This deal is back again today, likely for one day only again. Might be worth checking your reservations for price changes and the chance to cancel/rebook. Don’t forget to stack with the new Amex Offer good for $40 back on $200+ and double elite qualifying nights if targeted.

Update 3/21/19: This deal is back on, with Ebates again offering 10% / 10x back. Note the exclusions that were added the last time around.

Update: Ebates is now excluding both W Hotels and Design Hotels via the new terms. Thanks to reader Bern for catching that.

Ebates is offering 10% back on Marriott booking today. Those who have signed up for new accounts and linked to Membership Rewards can alternatively earn 10 Membership Rewards points per dollar (on the room rate before taxes). That’s a pretty sweet deal since you’re still booking direct and would therefore get points, elite credit, elite benefits, etc.

  • Get 10% cash back on Marriott bookings today only via Ebates
  • If you are new to Ebates and want to earn Membership Rewards, you’ll want to sign up via this link: www.ebates.com/american-express. (not an affiliate link)
  • If you are new to Ebates and prefer to earn cash back, you can sign up with our affiliate link with our thanks.

  • Cash Back is not available on airfare, car rentals, vacation packages, gift cards, rooms offered at specially negotiated rates, where the customer is required to be affiliated with or employed by a particular company or organization to receive the special rate (e.g., government rate or the Marriott employee rate) and rooms that are booked and paid for using Marriott Rewards Points.

  • Cash Back is not available at the following brands: Ritz-Carlton Destination Club, Design Hotels, Bulgari, W Hotels; and at the following properties: Atlantis, Autograph Collection, Bulgari Hotel, London, Joshua G.E. Medical Corp. Quick Thoughts

Portal payouts for Marriott have been consistently strong in recent months. We’ve seen 10x United, 10x American Airlines miles, and as high as 12% back via Ebates over the past couple of months.

This payout may be more appealing to those who have been able to link Ebates with Membership Rewards to earn an effective 10 Membership Rewards points per dollar (or rather buy Membership Rewards at a rate of 1c each since you’re choosing to forgo 10% cash back here). That’s surely attractive to many.

As noted at the top, the nice thing about booking through a portal like Ebates is that you’re taken directly to the Marriott website to complete your booking, so your stay should qualify for all the usuals (Marriott points, elite benefits, elite credit, etc).

While the Ebates site says that “specially negotiated rates, where the customer is required to be affiliated with or employed by a particular company or organization to receive the special rate (e.g., government rate or the Marriott employee rate)“, I’ve anecdotally found that booking the AAA rate can be an eligible rate for cash back. YMMV (a strict reading of the terms might be taken to mean that AAA rates aren’t eligible, so it’s always possible something could change).

Keep in mind also that there is no way to apply this to a previous booking; you would need to cancel your existing booking and re-book through Ebates today (though you’ll of course want to check to make sure rates haven’t increased). Cash back posts within a few weeks after completing your stay.

Overall, a pretty good deal if you have paid bookings to make today.

When making a Marriott reservation there was a tab for special rates that offered 25% off for members. During booking it mentioned “Non-commissionable rate”. Do you believe this is ineligible for ebates?

Larry

How does this work? Do you earn the cash back or miles just on the room rate or do you earn on the total bill including taxes and incidentals?

Alan

Dang it, looks like I waited too long to book my hotel room. Should have booked last night. Oh well. You snooze you lose.

Sean

10% back on AAA rate as well? Can anyone please confirm this?

Sean

Great! Thanks. I guess this is not enforced per their terms –

Hope the payout goes through easy peasy as I received an email that my booking qualified me for this. Will go update my info make sure they have the address of where to send the check to…

Dan

That’s good to know! I’ve always had an issue with UPromise tracking Marriott stays, so good to know at least one portal works well.
