Quick Thoughts
While the savings isn’t huge here, Best Buy sells a wide range of gift cards, so you may find this useful even if you don’t need to buy something from Best Buy. Keep in mind that Best Buy offers often hit their enrollment cap, so you want to add these offers sooner rather than later if you think you might use them.
Note: Some readers have pointed out that the terms exclude gift card purchases. I hadn’t noticed that. Frankly, I doubt that will be enforced, but keep that in mind if you try to use an offer to buy gift cards. I should note though that purchasing Best Buy eGift cards from BestBuy.com will not trigger either offer as those purchases are not processed by Best Buy but rather by Cashstar.

I can’t remember anymore … what’s the thinking on buying 3rd party (i.e., Netflix) giftcards as concerns spend counting for Amex SUB?
Purchasing gift cards of any kind is definitely a risk for AmEx SUB. It may work, or you may attract some unwelcome attention from AmEx RAT and be subject to a clawback.
This will come in handy when they have a bonus on buying Apple gift cards again.
i am reading the exclusion as cannot buy any gift card for this offer. you can always call Amex, so would love to hear if you all know any different
Thanks for pointing this out. As I mention in another comment below, I very much doubt that will be enforced. It won’t work for buying Best Buy gift cards on their website because Best Buy does not process those purchases themselves (Cashstar does those), but for other gift card purchases I doubt that there is any mechanism in place to prevent gift card purchases. Amex Offers often say that they exclude gift card purchases when we know that in fact they very frequently still work for them. If you call Amex, I’m sure the rep will read the terms of the offer and say they are excluded, but in practice it just isn’t frequently enforced.
So does that mean the gift cards only work in the store vs. online? Thanks
The +1 MRP deal was on BestBuy.com though…Can you order gift card online and qualify for both deals?
Yes but some gift cards like Amazon are in-store only. Best buy either gift cards on sale online or Apple.
I noticed the terms say gift cards are excluded. Is that language new or is it referring specifically to BB gift cards? I’ve never noticed it before (but definitely possible I wasn’t paying attention in the past).
Thanks for pointing this out. I had missed that exclusion. Frankly, I doubt that would be enforced, but I added a note to the post about it.
Let me add though that purchasing Best Buy gift cards online will not work. Those are processed by Cashstar, not BestBuy.com.
