Quick Thoughts
These rates can be excellent at many of the included retailers, though be sure to use a tool like Cashbackmonitor.com to shop around for rates from competing portals.
Keep in mind that you do not need to book prepaid rates to take advantage of the increased rates at hotels and rental car companies. Booking a stay paid later at the hotel is fine and should track at the 15x, but don’t expect the points until after you check out from the stay.
Norton is once again at 90% back. The most expensive plan is $300, which should yield 27,000 Membership Rewards points (a cost of 1.11c per point). Additionally, there are a couple of targeted Amex Offers out for Norton (enrollment required). I see one that’s good for 25% back up to $60 back. Assuming you paid for the $300 plan with a card loaded with 25% back, your net cost should be $240 for a cost of just under 0.9c per point). You could actually reduce the cost per point to as low as 0.83c per point if you purchase one of the lower plans (25% back maxes out at $60, so you won’t quite get 25% savings on the most expensive plan).
LifeLock is also at 95% back and represents another opportunity to buy Amex points cheaply.
There are many, many other retailers available with existing Amex Offers or Chase Offers that should stack with the increased payouts. Also remember to check out SimplyMiles.
I had a Sixt rental that I did through Rakuten for 20x last fall. I have the screenshots to prove it. Rakuten can’t get Sixt to give out the cash back.
yummy!
