There has recently been an Amex Offer available for Phillips 66, 76, and Conoco that was slated to be valid until May 3rd. However, this morning when updating our Current Amex Offers database, I noticed that the offer on my cards now shows an expiration date of 8/2/20. If you live near the included brands and/or are hoping for a summer road trip, it might be worth adding this offer.
The Deal
- The Amex Offer for +2 Membership Rewards points at Phillips 66, 76, and Conoco is now showing an expiration of 8/2/20 (not clear whether this is just for those who did not previously add it or if it has been extended for those who added it before)
Key Terms
- Expires 8/2/20
- Valid for automotive fuel paid for at the pump only (card must be swiped at the pump)
- Excludes online/phone/mobile app transactions, aviation fuel, car wash, convenience store purchases, etc.
Quick Thoughts
I had not previously added the offer, so I’m not sure if this is extension applies for those who had already added it or if this is being rolled out as a new offer (the previous offer set to expire on May 4th no longer shows on my cards). However, I last updated our Amex Offer database on Wednesday and as of Wednesday my offer still showed an expiration date of May 3rd (we had added that offer to our database back on February 10th). The expiration date on the offer changed to August 2nd between Wednesday and Friday this week.
I hadn’t previously added the offer because I don’t have any of these gas stations in my area and had no plans for a road trip before it expired. With the extension to August 2nd, I could see this being more appealing to add “just in case” (or obviously if you know you’ll use it).
There are obviously other ways to save more / earn more points on gas (grocery store fuel point programs, gift cards purchased at even 5% off face value, gift cards purchased at an office supply store at 5x, etc). In my case, the few times I’ve bought gas station gift cards I’ve sat on them forever because I either didn’t happen to get off the highway at the right exit or didn’t have the cards in the car, etc. If you’ve got a system with your gift cards, you’ll likely ignore this offer. If you’re more likely to carry the Amex you use for gas and/or you’re working on a new card spending offer anyway, this could be worth adding.
Keep in mind that the terms state gas pump purchases only.
