If you have near-term travel plans, you may want to check Southwest Airlines: they are offering 20% off award tickets with promo code SAVENOW.
The Deal
- Southwest Airlines is offering 20% off on award tickets with promo code SAVENOW
Key Details
- Must book by 3/25/21
- Must travel by 4/30/21
- Discount only applies to award tickets
- Discount applies to Wanna Get Away, Anytime, or Business Select fares
Quick Thoughts
As you can see in the screen shots above, the promo code reduces the cost of a points redemption by 20%. The final pair of flights above reflect the discount. As you can see, this works out well for Southwest points:
- Cash price: $168
- Award pre-discount: 10,506 + $5.60 (1.55cpp)
- Discounted award: 8,359 + $5.60 (1.94cpp)
- Cash price: $103
- Award pre-discount: 6,428 + $5.60 (1.52cpp)
- Discounted award: 5,108 + $5.60 (1.9cpp)
Note that the valuations above do not take into account the points you would earn on these Wanna Get Away fares (5x). After factoring in point earnings lost through an award ticket (versus a paid ticket), the net value is 1.4cpp before the discount and 1.74cpp after for the second example above (very slightly higher for the first).
Point values are likely to be higher when booking to select international destinations as shown in this post: The new true value of Southwest points: How to get up to 1.9c in value.
Note that the discount also applies to Anytime fares and Business Select.
You input the code on the home page.
Note that the discount will only show on award bookings, so be sure to select the radio button for “Points” above the number of passengers.
H/T: Dan’s Deals
It’s funny, I booked a trip to Orlando in early March and it cost ~18k points RT, and with this sale the cost is ~21k RT. Always have to book early and keep checking ticket prices with SW.
fares are now mostly higher lol, with the disc, pts in apr. is considerably higher for a fri depart & tues return comparing to the current free change
Will look to cancel my existing tickets to LAS and re-book with this promotion.
Great timing. Just cancelled a cash fare to Tampa in April and re-booked with points. I’ll use the cash at a later date.
