Frequent Miler's latest team challenge, Million Mile Madness, is happening now! Follow us as Greg, Nick, and Stephen compete to earn 1 Million SAS miles by flying 15 airlines before November 23rd. Who will complete the challenge with the most Speed, Affordability, and Style?

Follow along here!

This morning, Amex began sending out emails to alert cardholders to the changes announced last week adding additional value to a number of cards. Greg’s son’s email additionally noted that he would get a one-time $200 “Appreciation Credit” upon renewal. That’s an awesome deal on top of the newly-enhanced benefits. Unfortunately, my wife did not receive this offer on her Business Platinum card (perhaps because she already renewed in 2020?).

a screenshot of a credit cardThe screen shot above is from Greg’s son’s email; the subject line is, “Your additional Card value for 2020”.

My wife’s email simply didn’t have the section in blue, presumably because she already renewed during 2020 (earlier this year). The terms on the offer state that it is automatic for targeted cardholders, with no registration/activation required. Here are the full terms from the bottom of the email:

Eligible Business Platinum Card Members as determined by American Express in its sole discretion, will be eligible to receive a one-time $200 statement credit after Card renewal. The statement credit will be applied to the eligible Card account within 8-12 weeks of the account renewal month. This statement credit is limited to Basic (not Additional) Card Members only. Offer is non-transferable. If the eligible Business Platinum Card is cancelled, or you have downgraded or upgraded your Card up to 45 days after the first day of your renewal month, you will not receive the one-time $200 statement credit. American Express reserves the right to modify or revoke offer at any time.

That’s a great deal, particularly when paired with what is now up to $920 in statement credits this year if you’re able to take advantage of all of the many benefits. I’d definitely renew with that kind of offer and this year’s benefits if I had a renewal coming up soon. Note that the renewal date on the targeted account above isn’t until December — at that point he’ll presumably have used all of this year’s benefits, but even still I’d probably renew for next year if I had any confidence that I could use the regular annual credits. Hopefully we’ll see Amex extend some of the limited-time benefits into next year.

I’d definitely recommend keeping an eye out for this email.

No email for me ‘bout this. Amex bness plat. I DID get an email Saturday saying one of my benefits is the annual $200 credit with Dell. $100/$100. Nothing about $400, $200/$200. And no $200 statement credit notice. Am I just not getting any love?

My wife’s business platinum account had the renewal fee charge on April 16th, and she did not have that $200 appreciate credit email. I’ll make her call tomorrow and ask for it… I wanted to close the account anyway and move to the Blue 2x card, but not getting this will push me over that cliff if it’s denied!

Edited to add: We did use $104 of the annual airline credit in January on UA seat fees, perhaps that factored into not being targeted?

AMEX doesn’t like your wife.
BTW did Branson call you looking to refinance Necker Island?
I’d only do it for his original cost
