The Offer

  • 10% back on points redeemed between June 1st and September 5th, 2017
  • Both full award stays and cash & points stays receive 10% points back
  • Must register here by June 30th (Register now)

Quick Thoughts

While I’m not a big fan of the new World of Hyatt loyalty scheme, Hyatt undoubtedly provides some of the best values for award stays. Enhancing that with a further 10% back during the peak North American travel period serves to make your Hyatt points even more valuable for your summer vacation plans. If you were to redeem 50,000 points or more during the promotional period, your rebate would be worth at least one night in a Category 1 Hyatt — a nice return on your summer vacation.

In the past, new cardholders who open an account and register by the start of the promotion have been eligible to receive the rebate, meaning that it should be possible to open a Hyatt Credit Card account (if you don’t already have one) and take advantage of this promotion. I don’t personally have this card, but I am considering opening it before this promotional period ends as I have a number of award stays planned during this time period. This is the third year in a row that Hyatt as made this offer. If this promotion continues to repeat annually, it certainly adds to the long-term value proposition of the card. Thankfully, this card is not believed to be subject to the Chase 5/24 rule.

In my case, my wife and I head to the Hyatt House in Poughkeepsie/Fishkill a couple of times a year so we can have dinner at the Culinary Institute of America (highly recommended – particularly The Bocuse Restaurant). While far from my favorite Hyatt property and not located as close to the CIA as a couple of Hilton/IHG properties, the value is tough to beat. Here is a weekend night this summer:

Being able to book that for 5,000 points is a nice value.

Getting that night for free because of the points I plan to redeem anyway just sweetens the pot.

Finally, this promotion also makes a nice trade if you have a friend with Globalist status. Hyatt allows you, once every 30 days, to transfer points from one member to another. If you have a friend with Globalist status, you could transfer your points to him or her and they could book the stay for you as a Guest of Honor stay (thereby granting you Globalist privileges like breakfast/lounge access, free parking, a suite upgrade if available at check in, 4pm checkout, etc). If your friend is a Globalist member with the Hyatt credit card, this might encourage them to help you out with your award booking. Note that points may only be transferred into or out of a Hyatt account once every 30 days. This means that once you complete your transfer, neither of you will be able to move points either in or out for 30 days, so take that into consideration.

Don’t forget to register for the promotion — do so via the link above. I would recommend you do it now as there is no benefit in waiting and you don’t want to forget.

Can’t seem to find this answer. My wife is an authorized user of my Chase Hyatt card. We have reservations under her name. Will those reservations count? Don’t think I can cancel and rebook under my name as those dates are sold out now.

I’ve had a booking for a couple months now for a stay using points, June 1-5th in Paris. Just registered. Do you think this would apply to only ‘new bookings’ or perhaps I’ll get the 10% rebate for the existing reservation that is within the redemption period? Thanks.

Nancy

Such a cool weekend getaway! I might just have to book as well. Can’t believe it’s such a deal on points.
