Quick Thoughts

These increased mileage payouts for magazine / newspaper subscriptions seem to come around periodically and can be a great way of boosting your mileage accounts at low cost.

The biggest downside with these deals is that you have to call to cancel the subscriptions as they can’t be cancelled online (unless you live in California). It’s also important to set up a reminder to cancel your subscription(s) at the correct time.

With the Barron’s deal, you have to keep the subscription for at least 45 days. That means you have between days 46-56 to cancel before your credit card will be charged again.

For the WSJ deal, you also have to keep the subscription for at least 45 days. With this deal though, you have between days 46-84 to cancel before they charge your card again.

For the Barron’s subscription (and possibly the WSJ subscription too) the terms suggest you should be able to take out multiple subscriptions – one via each portal – in order to earn multiple bonuses. Having said that, it might be worth holding out for higher bonuses through some of the portals.
