In what looks like it could potentially be a pretty lucrative offer if you need an Avis rental, Etihad Guest is offering 20,000 bonus miles for Avis rentals of 3 days or longer. You’ll have to be able to book quickly and the travel window is relatively brief, but this offer appears to be repeatable for up to 3 rentals, which could be a great deal if you need the car rental anyway.

Quick Thoughts
Car rentals have become very expensive over the past couple of years. On my recent trip to Europe, car rental definitely made up the largest out-of-pocket expense.
With this promotion, you get a solid rebate in 20,000 Etihad Guest miles. While Etihad miles aren’t the most valuable miles in existence, there are still a number of sweet spots using Etihad miles for premium cabin international travel (like 22K miles one-way in economy class from the east coast to Casablanca on Royal Air Maroc – or 44K miles in business class). See: EEtihad Guest Sweet Spots for award tickets in business class or economy for more good values in the Etihad Guest program.
At a base level, I think it wouldn’t be too tough to get at least 1c per mile out of Etihad miles if their partners fit your needs. That makes the rebate here worth at least $200 to those who can find good use for Etihad miles.
Unfortunately, the booking page doesn’t necessarily return the best of prices. However, I looked up qualifying 3-day rentals in several different cities and I came up with prices in the $200-$250 range. While that doesn’t make this promotion rental-run worthy, it does make this a great deal if you actually need a rental since the combination of a 3-day rental and 20K miles at those prices seems great in the current market.
Of course, you’ll want to shop around. I strongly recommend checking prices against Autoslash and/or tracking your rental through Autoslash to look for a better deal. Still, if you need a 3-day rental (or a couple of them), it would have to be a pretty big price discrepancy to make this deal not worth some consideration. It definitely makes sense to shop around, but this deal looks pretty good to me. Just be sure to carefully check the terms and make sure you’re renting a qualifying car.
Speaking of the terms, note that the full terms and conditions (listed here) says that you need to book between August 2nd and August 5th, but the promo landing page shows August 14 to 17th, so I think that line in the full terms is just a poor copy & paste job from a previous promotion.
H/T: Doctor of Credit
It’s been 9 weeks and I still haven’t received the Etihad Guest miles yet. The missing miles claim form at https://one.avisworld.com/en_GB/Avis-Etihad/ClaimMiles keeps telling me that my Etihad Guest # is invalid. I did earn some Avis Preferred points for this rental even though I made sure that I:
Didn’t log inDidn’t enter my Avis Preferred Wizard #Didn’t enter any of my AWDs

Anyone got their bonus points yet ? Avis tells me to call Etihad an Etihad tells me to call avis…no one seems to know about the promo and it s been 6 weeks since rental. Getting a bit nervous.
Still waiting myself.
Quick update just got mine today!
Thanks for the DP! How many weeks from rental completion to the bonus postings was it?
Hey Brian, got them after 5 weeks roughly, they all came at once.
Thanks for the data point!
Is anyone else having trouble getting a payment form accepted to make a reservation? I have tried a few cards (I of course have a few more to try…)?
Figured it out. Use Firefox, not chrome. I guess all you mac people had no issues…
Booked 3 rentals in BEG for $40 each, so for $120 total I will make 60k. What a great deal. Thanks dude
Thanks for that. I tried reservations for places I am going in the US and it was always + 20-50% more. BEG is just about perfect (I didn’t find $40, but 50-60 will have to do)
Not sure when you guys made your reservations, but the T&C says the promo ends at 11:59pm GST, which was about 7.5 hours ago (4pm Eastern time on 8/17). I think the promo is over.
Stack with Freedom Q3 category?
$70 for 3 days at Abu Dhabi Airport (Etihad hub). But I still do not think its worth the effort.
almost enough miles to make it to Casablanca from the US
Booking dates on the T&Cs you’ve copied are 2-5 August
Yup, I noted that in the post and said it appears to be an old copy and paste but that the landing page shows Aug 14-17 dates.
Just tried it for an 8-day rental on Maui that fits the timeframe. The code for this promo is about $400 more than my normal discount code.
I was only looking at 3-day rentals. In your case, if you split that into even just two rentals, you’d be looking at 40,000 miles – though since you’re at 8 days, I might rather push it an extra day and make it 3 separate 3-day rentals. Assuming it’s still $400 more expensive, the 60K miles may still be worth it to you.
Or maybe the disparity would end up being more, in which case I wouldn’t use this deal either.
Didn’t think of that, but the prices are still crazy for the ones I’m looking at. $147 for three days for a Jetta (or equiv) when I’m logged in to my avis account. Same days and pickup location for the Jetta class car from Etihad through the linked site, USD 393.65. Neither of those are prepay rates.
Didn’t mean TO BOLD ANY OF THAT!!!!!!! 🙂
I am looking to reserve rental cars for 6 nights but I don’t think we can split up the reservation into two different reservations and claim 40k bonus miles according to T&C. Am I interpreting the T&C correctly?
T&C 22 shows that consecutive or conjuctive rentals will not qualify for the miles: “Renters can only claim Miles for their own rentals, i.e. only one rental at a time. Consecutive or conjunctive rentals will not qualify for Etihad Guest Miles – only the first qualifying rental in such situations will be awarded miles.”
Do Budget rentals count since they are both owned by Avis ?
I doubt it. Promos are usually brand-specific and the link for this deal is at the Avis website – I don’t think you can rent a Budget car there.
