UPS My Choice deals is offering a link for a $30 Costco Gift card with a $60 on a Costco membership. Like other Costco membership deals, the “catch” is that you are buying a certificate that must be brought to a store to activate your membership. If you live near a Costco, this looks like a great deal.

- Direct link to this deal
Key Terms
- Valid for new memberships only.
- You will receive an email that includes your Costco Membership Activation Certificate.
- To activate your Costco membership you must bring your Costco Membership Activation Certificate to any U.S. or Puerto Rico Costco membership counter.
- Costco Shop Card will be mailed after you have joined Costco as a new member.
Quick Thoughts
This looks like a great way to save and get a net discounted Costco membership. You can usually buy stuff from the Costco website site at a 5% markup if you are not a member or I believe you can shop in-store with a gift card as a non-member. However, a couple of weeks ago I ran into a situation where I ordered online without a membership and they cancelled on me, but weren’t cancelling on people with memberships. I later (after having bought a membership and re-ordering successfully) found that the issue was the expired membership number on my order even though I was paying the markup.
At any rate, I had Googled around for Costco membership deals. At the time I needed it, all of the “deals” I could find offered only a $10 or $20 Costco gift card. All of them required going in to a physical store to activate membership. That doesn’t work for me since I live a couple of hours from the closest location, but for those in an area served by Cosctco this deal is probably as good as it gets.
Interestingly, the terms note that the $30 Costco gift card will be sent my snail mail after activating in-store. I did a similar deal in the past (with a smaller gift card) from Groupon and was given the gift card when activating in-store. It’s possible that they’ve changed that and now deliver via mail or it’s possible that the terms on that piece are incorrect. I’d recommend going in expecting to receive the gift card via mail and being pleasantly surprised if they give it to you in-store.
Also keep in mind that Dosh may allow you to earn 3% back for Costco purchases in-store or online up to a max of $10 per year. I don’t expect that purchasing this membership deal will trigger any cash back since the URL is Costcomembershipoffer rather than Costco.com, but if you’re buying a membership it might be worth linking the card you intend to use when purchasing from Costco in order to pick up that 3% up to $10.
If you’re not familiar with UPS My Choice deals, it’s just UPS’s shopping portal, though in this case they are not offering cash back but rather a link to buy this certificate.
