Hotwire is offering an interesting promotion that surely will not last long. In a nutshell, they are offering 4-star hotels in a number of major cities for $49 per night for travel between June 26th-July 8th. That’s a small window of opportunity, and you can book a max of two nights at this price — but at $49 per night, it’s hard to go wrong in cities where room rates are often much more expensive.

The Deal

  • $49 room nights in major cities like NY, LA, San Francisco, Miami, Chicago, etc for travel from June 26th-July 8th, while supplies last
  • Direct link to this promotion

Key Terms

  • Can book a max of 2 nights at these prices (only applies to first 2 nights if you book more)
  • 1 booking per person
  • It’s Hotwire, so you won’t know the name of the hotel until after booking, but you can know the general neighborhood
  • Must book by June 28th, but the best deals surely won’t last more than hours from now
  • Price doesn’t include tax or resort fees

Quick Thoughts

This is an awesome promo if you have travel coming up in the next couple of weeks. While I don’t usually prefer opaque booking sites like Hotwire these days, the savings here could easily outweigh the gamble. You won’t get elite credit or benefits — but with room rates significantly higher in some of these cities, you can take your savings and get a good brunch out on the town.

The best properties will surely go fast. I haven’t used BetterBidding.com in years, so I don’t know if it’s still updated, but that site used to give you a decent idea as to which properties you might be booking…though, honestly, I don’t know as though you’ll have much time to consider as I’d expect this to sell out quickly.

The one “gotcha” that I don’t like is that the price doesn’t include tax or resort fees. I recently stayed at The Algonquin in New York City, a 4-star Autograph Collection (by Marriott) hotel. They charge a $25 per night “destination fee”. It includes some worthwhile benefits ($25 F&B credit, $15 laundry credit, hop on/hop off bus tour), but that would nonetheless represent 50% of the room cost here. Keep in mind that you might run into such fees in some cities, though I’d expect those fees to be disclosed before you finish the booking process (I’m hurrying to post this before trying to make a test booking so that readers will have time to find and book these deals).

Really wish they had a bigger booking window. I’m out of the country until late at night on July 6th, so there’s no use I could get out of this. And I’d totally have booked an LA or NYC hotel at that price, too. 🙁

Jay

For Chicago, these “deals” are disingenuous.
Chicago Suburb listings masquerading as Chicago proper. Please. And certainly no $49 deals.
This was for 6/29-7/1.
Maybe I’m just searching on the wrong days?

Stacking Points

Just booked Hotel Maya – A Doubletree Hotel in Long Beach, same-day for $49 (vs. list rate of $200+ on other OTAs). Hotel is kind of middling. Gift for Hilton Golds at front desk was two bottles of water and a cookie, and no suite upgrade. They did agree to add my HHonors number to the reservation, though, which I think was nice of them, as bookings made through OTAs generally don’t earn nights toward status or provide elite benefits. It’s kind of shitty that the only hotels that were offered in Los Angeles were all in Long Beach. That’s kind of like offering deals on NYC hotels, only for the deals to all be located in White Plains or Jersey City instead. Definitely a bait-and-switch, but I’m still relatively happy with the deal.

I think it was your dates, I see some others in LA for July 3 evening: a few downtown, one in hollywood, pasadena, century city, and LAX. Finding out more at the moment. Also https://roomrevealer.com seems pretty spot on to match with # of hotwire reviews and trip advisor reviews as comparison.

Steve

Landed 2 rooms in same booking @ Le Meridien San Francisco for two nights over the 4th. No resort fees. What a steal, thanks for posting!

Billy Bob

Resort fee due at hotel
This hotel charges a resort fee which you pay at the hotel directly. It isn’t included in your Hotwire total. $90.00

That changed the calculus…

Jason Morgan

Did you mean to reply to a response? Which hotel?

Pam

Booked 4.5 star boutique in Austin for July 4th. Hotwire added on $42.70/nt in taxes & fees.

Bob

Just booked The Manhattan Club in NYC for $49 ($62 w Tax).

Jason Morgan

Just landed Parc 55 SanFran for out the door of $114 for 2 night. Thanks!

Andrew

is that the 4* hotel Union square east? or 4* boutique hotel?

Garret

I just landed the same one. It was in the Union square east deal.

Andrew

looks like both the USE and soma hotel options have daily $29 resort fee.. lame. Does the Parc 55 have that as well..? not interested if it has resort fees..

Andrew

it is but given that i live in bay area and dealing with parking or caltrain. not worth it for $80 a night. might as well just drive home. only 35 min each way with no traffic..

Jason Morgan

No fees. That’s why I said $114 total for 2 days. Taxes included. $49+ tax/day.

Andrew

nice! if there are still ones without resort fee i’d book for sure

Andrew

bit the bullet and booked for this sat night with resort fee. $86 for one night with my parents. thanks again1

Most of the DC hotels are likely Kimpton Hotels. Based on that I’d guess that this is mostly a Kimpton promotion. $49/night + taxes is a good price. I’m seeing if my wife wants to commute the five miles from Arlington to DC for a Kimpton say (wine hour!) even though I have to do some remote work this weekend.
