It appears that Costco.com has now lowered the standard price for $500 Southwest Airlines gift cards to $429.99. This new price is $20 per card better than the regular price of $449.99 that we’ve been seeing from Costco for years and matches the discount that was offered during periodic sales.
While it’s terrific to see the lower price become standard, it also could herald even deeper discounts on sales in 2025, which would be an even bigger win for Southwest customers.

- Costco members can now buy a $500 Southwest Airlines gift card for $429.99 at Costco.com.

Quick Thoughts
This will obviously be a nice development for those who fly paid Southwest flights. The one downside is not being able to earn 3-5x on the airfare purchase, as these will code as a normal Costco purchases. That can be partially offset by using a 2x card like the Costco Visa, the Capital One Venture X or the Capital One Venture Rewards (also remember that you can use Mastercard and Discover on Costco.com purchases). If you have a Costco Executive membership you’ll also earn 2% back as that’s earned on third party gift card purchases as well.
It will be worth keeping an eye on what Costco does with the pricing on Southwest cards in 2025. It’s no secret that Southwest has been aggressively trying to bolster sagging income streams – I wouldn’t be surprised if, along with a lower regular price on gift cards through Costco, we also see even deeper discounts on short-term sales.
The link posted above takes me to a “page not found” on the Costco website. Is this deal available year-round or only at select times?

Can you use more than one card to pay and use Visa GCs from Staples/Office Depot to get 5x?
Venmo Visa 3% back at Costco and recently had a double percent back (6%) for a few weeks over the holidays. Or use Affirm for Costco online to use any credit card – particularly useful for Amex new card offers. Affirm will likely start you at a low credit threshold (mine was $1600) but after a few transactions and a month passes (end of statement period) they will likely increase your credit limit – mine increased to $8K in one month after two paid off transactions (which I paid in full immediately instead of waiting for the monthly payments) and the new statement period began.
Hopefully this means the sale price will be $409.99 in the future
Tim, Costco no longer allows for Discover to be used for online purchases. Visa or Mastercard only
losing 1-3x bonus points on the airfare purchase is obviously irrelevant compared with a 14% discount. potentially larger concern is the loss of credit card protections when paying with a gift card, though that can be addressed by buying a separate travel insurance policy
