Capital One 360 is currently offering a $250 bonus when you open a new checking account and use your 360 Checking debit card for qualifying transactions of at least 20 of $10 or more within 75 days of account opening. There is no deposit requirement to receive the bonus. That’s quite an easy bonus to hit, and at $500 for those playing in two-player mode, I could see this being really attractive to those who can take advantage of it. Note that this bonus is available nationwide.

Quick Thoughts
This is a straightforward bonus for a checking account. Unlike 99% of bank account bonuses, there’s no deposit requirement. Just make 20 $10+ debit card transactions in the first 75 days, and the $250 is yours.
I’ve had a Capital One 360 account for many years and have frequently used it to meet direct deposit requirements at other banks, as ACH pushes from my 360 Checking account have almost always successfully met those requirements. The 360 Checking account has no fees or account minimums, so it has been very easy to keep the account open over the years.
Speaking of keeping the account, there’s no early termination fee if you meet the promo terms, earn the bonus, and then decide you no longer want to keep it. On the flip side, if you have or had an open 360 Checking, Simply Checking, Total Control Checking, or Money Teen Checking account as a primary or secondary account holder with Capital One on or after January 1, 2024, you will be ineligible for the bonus.
Overall, this bonus looks like easy money. I like checking account bonuses with low requirements and often look at them in terms of the total being doubled since my wife. I will both go after a bonus like this and put together $500 in easy money (note that neither of us is eligible for this specific bonus).
I have often said that one can look at bonuses like this in terms of the points they could buy — I have at times used money from bonuses like these to buy Hilton or IHG points on sale — since those currencies often go on sale for half a cent per point, you could potentially buy 50,000 points with a bonus like this (or double that in two-player mode). Bonuses like this one can make for a nice slush fund for stuff like that, and if you’re able to leverage those points for a great redemption, all the better.

Confused. Maybe a cut and paste error? No direct deposit needed, but under “Key Terms” it says, “Your bonus will be deposited into your account within 60 days after you have completed the requirements above. This 60-day period begins the day after your second Qualifying Direct Deposit has been posted to your account.”
Last key term cites direct deposit requirement?
“I’ve actually had a Capital One 360 account for many years and have frequently used it to meet direct deposit requirements at other banks as “ACH pushes from my 360 Checking” account have almost always successfully triggered direct deposit requirements at other banks.“
Would this work to trigger payroll/direct deposit requirements for a bonus (like from SoFi)?
[…] Easy $250 for opening Capital One checking account no direct deposit required, just requires minimum debit card use, open with promo code DEBIT250 (HT: Frequent Miler) […]
I was just denied for the Venture card. Will opening this account help or hurt my future odds of picking up a Venture or Venture X?
I’m wondering about this too
What are the best ways to do the debit transactions, without having to make purchases?
You could theoretically PayPal / Venmo someone $10 twenty times, using the debit card as the payment method, then have them reimburse you.
I do this to be eligible for rewards on my Bilt card — I send my sister-in-law $.01 on PayPal five times and use my Bilt card as the payment method.
It specifically states in the small print that Venmo and Zelle do not count
“I’ve actually had a Capital One 360 account for many years and have frequently used it to meet direct deposit requirements at other banks as “ACH pushes from my 360 Checking” account have almost always successfully triggered direct deposit requirements at other banks.“
What does “ACH pushes” mean? Do you choose transfer or Zelle or pay bill?
Transfer
I have an old Orange Checking account still active with Captial One (maybe it was ING back in the day). Does this make me ineligible? I didn’t see it on this list… “On the flip side, if you have or had an open 360 Checking, Simply Checking, Total Control Checking or Money Teen Checking account”=…”
oh are they doing this again
You should add in the Key Terms, “Greg Davis-Kean is not eligible for this offer”!
