If you’re looking to go to Europe in February or March, we wanted to alert you to the fact that there is almost wide open of JetBlue Mint award availability from New York (JFK) to Amsterdam (AMS) in February, even for a family of four on many dates. March availability isn’t as widespread as February, but there are still quite a number of dates with availability. You’ll want to book through Qatar Avios, which charges 78,000 Avios each way plus $10.10 departing the US or about $87.85 departing Europe (taxes are always higher departing Europe).
The Deal
- There is plentiful JetBlue Mint availability from New York JFK to/from Amsterdam (AMS) in February and some availability in March that can be booked via Qatar Avios for 78,000 Avios plus tax each way.
- Search for availability at QatarAirways.com or in the Qatar Airways mobile app (note that you’ll need to log in to search)
Quick Thoughts
While 78,000 miles isn’t a particularly notable price for business class to Europe, JetBlue Mint is a notable way to get there. Most folks find the in-flight experience to be excellent, from the seat to the service. While February and March are indeed a low season when it is typically not so tough to find business class availability to Europe, it is nonetheless notable that JetBlue has enough seats available for the whole family on many dates. Given the fact that every major transferable currency can be converted to one Avios program or another, it’s easy to collect enough Qatar Avios even if by transferring to British Airways, Finnair, Iberia, or Aer Lingus and then on to Qatar Airways.
All that said, I should note that the JetBlue Mint layout, while a standout against some carriers for the solo traveler, isn’t my favorite layout for family travel if you’re with young kids. The seats are lie-flat, but they angle individually from the aisle such that each seat is kind of its own cocoon — you can’t sit next to a companion but rather must sit in front of / behind or across the aisle, where you have to lean forward to see one another. This won’t be a problem (and may even be preferred) for someone with teenage or adult kids, but as someone who travels with young kids (age 7 and 4) who often need help changing a movie or charging a tablet or opening a drink or cleaning up a spill, etc, it is unideal. I far prefer the boxy forward-facing layouts where two seats in the middle are directly next to each other like in United Polaris (many other airlines offer something similar). I was very impressed with the on-board service when we flew Mint to Dublin last year, but I wouldn’t pick it over other options if traveling with my family because of the layout. If I were by myself or with other adults, I’d be happy to fly Mint again.
I’ll note that you should be able to perform a flexible date search on desktop (just pick your date and check the box that says “My dates are flexible”), but I couldn’t seem to get desktop search to work this morning (it just kept getting stuck on the search page). However, I was able to search individual dates in the Qatar Airways app and I found plenty of February dates with seats for 78,000 Avios and $10.10 per passenger departing the US.
That said, you can use ITA Matrix to find flights that should be bookable with Avios. See this post for complete details, but we believe that fare basis code I should be available as awards. Here’s a look at I-class availability in February from JFK to AMS.
As you can see, March is spottier but there is still some availability:
While I didn’t manually check that every date listed above has availability, I did check and handful and I found award availability on each of the dates that I checked which show I-class availability.
Here’s an example date in March with JetBlue Mint for 78,000 Avios and $10.10:
And I found numerous dates in February with space for four (or more) passengers. Here’s an example for four passengers from New York to Amsterdam in February (note that it’s showing the total price for four passengers, which is 312K Avios (78K x 4) and $40.40 ($10.10 x 4).
Remember that it’s easy to move around Avios, so if you took advantage of one of the late 2024 transfer bonuses to the various Avios programs, see our post about how to combine Avios to get this booked.
If you’d rather watch the process for getting these booked, check out our video on How to book JetBlue Mint class to the Caribbean using Qatar Avios — the process for this availability will be the same, just insert Amsterdam for the destination.
There are dates booking cheaper directly on JetBlue (~55K miles each direction)
I’m not seeing that. Can you give a specific date where you see business class for only 55K JetBlue miles one-way?
seats.aero was showing quite a bit of 55k one-way Mint awards through JetBlue last week. I did verify that JetBlue.com was showing 55k on their site. This week I can’t seem to find availability anymore
Interesting! I’ve not looked often, but I’ve never seen JetBlue over Mint to Europe for prices like that. I’ll have to keep an eye out now!
