Frontier cardholders can spend their way to free Companion Certificates

0

Frontier has launched a new promotion for cardholders that provides the opportunity to earn up to three Companion Certificates for spend on the card over the next five months.

That has the potential to offer some great value, but the overall upside will be limited due to the fact that the Companion Certificates can only be redeemed for one flight and that has to be round trip.

Frontier Companion Certificates Through Spend

The Deal

  • Earn Frontier Companion Certificates when putting the following amounts of spend on a Frontier credit card:
    • $3,000 – first Companion Certificate
    • $10,000 – second Companion Certificate
    • $20,000 – third Companion Certificate
  • Direct link to offer.

Key Terms

  • This offer is exclusive to FRONTIER Airlines World Mastercard® cardmembers and is not transferable. If your account is closed or you switch to another product during the promotional period, you may no longer be eligible for this promotion.
  • If you spend $3,000 in purchases, less credits, returns and adjustments (“Net Purchases”) with transaction dates from 8/25/2025 through 1/31/2026 (“Promotion Period”), you will earn one (1) companion certificate. If you spend $10,000 in Net Purchases during the Promotion Period, you will earn a second companion certificate, for a total of two (2) companion certificates. If you spend $20,000 in Net Purchases during the Promotion Period, you will earn a third companion certificate, for a total of three (3) companion certificates.
  • The maximum number of companion certificates you can earn during the Promotion Period is three.
  • Each companion certificate is valid for one round-trip flight and will expire one year from the date of issuance.
  • You can bring any companion on select bookings for the cost of government taxes and fees (starting at $5.60), provided the companion has a FRONTIER Miles account number and is added at the time of initial booking within the same ticket.
  • In order to use the companion certificate, members must be logged into their FRONTIER Miles account at the time of booking to ensure the companion benefit applies.
  • Blackout dates apply.
  • The companion certificate has no cash value and may not be applied to past bookings or subscriptions, refunded, sold, bartered, or traded.
  • If earned, the companion certificate(s) will be awarded by Frontier to your FRONTIER Miles frequent flyer account within 4 weeks from the end of this promotion.

Quick Thoughts

This big spend offer initially looked very enticing due to the ability to earn up to three Companion Certificates with up to $20,000 of spend. However, these certificates aren’t like a Southwest Companion Pass which allows you to book unlimited flights for your companion.

Instead, they’re only valid for one time use. Considering how cheap some Frontier flights are and the fact that you’ll still have to pay government taxes and fees, your ultimate savings might not end up being much. Before dedicating that much spend to your Frontier card, be sure to have a general idea for how much value you’ll likely get from the Companion Certificate(s).

Another limitation of the certificates is that they’re only valid for a round trip flight. If you found a great use case for a one way flight but found much better pricing (or an award flight) for the other direction, your overall savings won’t be as high if you opt for the more expensive Frontier flight in order to redeem the certificate(s).

One nice feature of the certificates is that you can redeem more than one at a time for the same flight. That means that a cardholder who wants to travel as a family of four could spend $20,000 by the end of January 2026 to earn three Companion Certificates. They’d then be able to redeem all three certificates for their traveling companions on the same flight.

An added benefit of the $10,000 and $20,000 spending thresholds is that you’ll also earn Silver and Gold status respectively if you don’t already have status with Frontier. That’s because you earn one elite qualifying mile per dollar spent on the Frontier credit card. With Silver status requiring 10,000 points and Gold requiring 20,000 points, those Companion Certificate spending thresholds match up nicely to earning status. If you’d like to get a head start on Frontier status due to imminent travel, at the time of publishing this you can get that via a status match for only $69.

A few months ago, Frontier launched a new companion travel pass benefit for Platinum and Diamond members. That benefit is different to these certificates because Platinum and Diamond members get unlimited travel for a companion. For those traveling as a group of three or more though, these certificates could come in handy nonetheless. The Platinum or Diamond status holder could spend their way to one or more certificates, using the companion travel pass benefit for one companion and a certificate from big spend for the other.
