Quick Thoughts

Standard economy awards between the US and Europe cost 25,000 Flying Blue miles no matter whether you’re starting on the east coast, west coast or somewhere in between. That means that this sale reduces that redemption cost to 18,750 miles one way (plus taxes and fees) if you can find availability.

Although standard business class availability tends to be hard to come by with Flying Blue, they tend to make quite a few award seats available in economy; even when a city is selected for Flying Blue Promo Rewards.

For example, here’s what availability looks like from Los Angeles to Budapest in October:

Air France KLM Flying Blue Promo Rewards September 2025 LAX-BUD

That’s the availability for just one person, but look at the availability for eight people:

Air France KLM Flying Blue Promo Rewards September 2025 LAX-BUD for 8 people

Virtually identical availability, with the exception of Saturday October 11. Note that it says 150,000 miles because that’s the total pricing for eight people at 18,750 miles each.

If you’d rather fly in premium economy, you can save 25% on flights to/from Europe from Washington D.C. Award availability isn’t quite as plentiful, but when searching from D.C. to Amsterdam there were at least seven days worth of availability each month through February 2026 when I took a look last night, which is pretty good if you have some semblance of flexibility with your travel dates.

As a reminder, in order to view award availability by month, leave the date field blank when doing your search; that’ll then display availability as per the screenshots above.

I’ve had no luck finding the long haul flying blue promo of 18,700 miles out of NY to Europe, using multiple destinations and a general search of all months, AF, support no help, what am I doing wrong? Is it a system thing? Lowest I’m finding is normal 25,000 to multiple destinations, i also tried out of Boston as well, same. Thanks

Maria

Well, at least it’s not me doing something wrong, hopefully it’s a temporary glitch. Thanks

Maria

Also if you find any changes I’d appreciate an update, thanks

The key to Flying Blue is to look outside the US and Canada.

As someone that flies out of MIA, Latin American countries have been a gold mine for me. Tons of availability out of Havana, Mexico City, Cancun, San Jose, Panama City, and Bogota.

These are all within 4 hours of me, which is the same as connecting via the North East Coast for me except these are legitimate red-eye flights. Not those 6-7 hour middle-of-the-night flights out of JFK.

Johnny

Thank you but there is no mention of often high fuel surcharges which for many of us is a big consideration. Would it be possible in future to include?

Dav

All true, but add me to the list of people who appreciate discussion of the cash costs.

Even just an example or two would add useful context, e.g. adding a note below the availability screenshot above.
