Hyatt promo: Earn up to 20K bonus points on stays at Hyatt Regency properties in the US

8

World of Hyatt launched a new promotion the other day, awarding double points on stays in Europe, Africa and the Middle East. In that post, I lamented the fact that while this was good for people booking stays in those regions, it was disappointing that it wasn’t valid for stays elsewhere in the world and particularly the US.

Well, it turns out Hyatt had something else in mind for domestic stays. Through November 23, you can earn up to 20,000 bonus points on stays at Hyatt Regency properties in the US, but those stays have to be booked using the World of Hyatt app.

  • Only the room occupied by the member will count toward this promotion.

  • Please allow two to three weeks after checkout for Bonus Points to be posted to your World of Hyatt account.

Quick Thoughts

It’s a shame that this promotion is only valid on stays at the Hyatt Regency brand. Thankfully there are ~100 Hyatt Regency hotels in the US, so it’s not like it’s a brand that’s hard to come by. To see a full list of the properties, visit this page on desktop, click the ‘Locations’ link at the top of the page and then select ‘North America’. On mobile, visit that page and click the menu button; you’ll find the ‘Locations’ link there.

Note that the bonus points on offer are cumulative and you can earn up to 20,000 bonus points total. You’ll earn 3,000 bonus points after three nights; if you subsequently stay a total of seven nights, you’ll be awarded an additional 7,000 points for a total of 10,000. Staying another three nights after that will earn you an extra 10,000 bonus points for a total of 20,000. That means that if you stay 10 nights at a Hyatt Regency by November 23, you’ll effectively be earning an average of 2,000 bonus points per night.

It’s coming up to that time of the year when people evaluate whether earning Globalist status with Hyatt is achievable. This promotion could make a mattress run worth considering, especially if you live near a category 1 or 2 Hyatt Regency.

There are five category 1 Hyatt Regency locations in the US:

  • Hyatt Regency Lisle near Naperville, IL
  • Hyatt Regency Schaumburg, Chicago, IL
  • Hyatt Regency Wichita, KS
  • Hyatt Regency Rochester, NY
  • Hyatt Regency Houston West, TX

There are also 18 category 2 Hyatt Regency hotels in the US. If you can book a category 1 or 2 property at off-peak pricing, you’re looking at redeeming 3,500 or 6,500 points per night. If you can do that for 10 nights and thus get back 2,000 points per night, you’re looking at a net cost of 1,500 or 4,500 points per night respectively.

Whether there are that many off-peak nights is another matter, but it could be worth checking out if you’re short of reaching Globalist but have the ability to mattress run.

Just be sure to register for the promotion in the app first and book your stays there.

Found a nasty issue. To get this promo you have to use the app to book, but that didn’t allow me to use a soon-expiring free night certificate. Had to use points. If I use a laptop I can use the free night.

I am currently at the Hyatt regency in lisle. They have a rate that seems only available for one night stays, but it’s 3k bonus points per night. Most nights seem to be around $100. So, between paying with the Hyatt business card, globalist bonus, the 3k bonus points, and another 2k points per night, I feel great about spending the $100 per night.

I’m a little annoyed by these “micro” Hyatt promos — I think they should include more hotels and not impose specialized booking conditions. Like I sometimes use their app to book, and sometimes I don’t. I don’t keep track. I now need to go through my Hyatt reservations and rebook my HR reservations to make sure I used the app. And I stay in HR’s both in the USA and abroad. The fact that foreign HRs don’t count limits my ability to get to the higher bonuses, and dis-incentivizes me from booking them

Does paying with points qualify?

Eligible methods of payment include cash, Points + Cash, check, or major credit cards or debit/bank cards.
Free night certificates and points only payments are not included in the FAQ response. Is this clarified elsewhere in the T&Cs?

I have 7x 1-4 certs that I need to use up before the end of the year, so this might help me with that.
