To our surprise, the Southwest Debit Card is more interesting than we expected! It’s been uncommon for debit cards to make waves in points-miles circles before (because of various limitations on debit card fees), but this one is proving intriguing. In this episode, we’ll talk about why.

Was inspired by your podcast to look into this. Overall very compelling. A couple things I noticed.
1) The 20% off coupon doesn’t apply to basic (wanna get away) fares: “The Promotion Code is not valid on Basic fare bookings.”
2) The 7500 anniversary bonus points that you can get on spend for $15,000 post on the anniversary date. If getting a recurring companion pass is your primary goal then probably better to open the card at the beginning of the year so that they post at that time (even if that means missing out on the 20% coupon for the first year).
The southwest debit card is more interesting than the southwest airline.
