Application Tips

Bank of America Application Tips

  • 3/12 or 7/12 Rule: You won't be approved if you have opened 3 or more accounts, with any bank, in the past 12 months. For those with Bank of America deposit accounts, the rule changes to 7+ accounts.
  • 2/3/4 Rule: Max 2 consumer cards per rolling 2 months, 3 per rolling 12 months, and 4 per rolling 24 months.
  • 5 card limit: You will not get approved for a new consumer card if you already have 5 consumer BOA cards open
  • Get Same Card Again: With some BOA cards, must wait 24 months after either opening or cancelling, depending upon the card.
  • Hard inquiries are usually combined into 1 when initiated within 30 days but there have been reports of TransUnion not combining.

Offer is now 60k + CP directly from alaskaair.com

Tim Steinke

Thanks, fixed.

garettg

There is a 65k + companion fare offer available. http://alaskaair65k.com

Unfortunately, these in-flight offers now require both a code AND the employee’s first/last name. Previously, only a code was required and you could use any random 6-digit number. There may be a way around that, but until we confirm it, it can’t be listed as the best offer.

garettg

Those fields aren’t marked as required on the form. I shared this with someone the other day who said they were approved and didn’t indicate they had an inflight offer number/name to use on the application. Also, when using the Bank of America login to “save time” on the app, after logging in, the fields for the employee number and name aren’t even present anymore but still shows the 65k offer.

Tim Steinke

Has the person who was approved despite not having the employee number/name verified that they received the increased offer after completing the spend?

garettg

No, they were just approved the other day, card probably not even received yet.

Kyle

Link directs to a 50k offer, not a 60k offer as of 8/20/24

David

Link appears to be dead—accessed on June 9th, 2024.

Does the 7/12 Rule with Bank of America deposit accounts include business checking account?

Please update this post to reflect that it is now possible to earn EQM by spending on these cards

Steve

There’s a better offer right now if you make a dummy booking. Look for the banner at bottom of the page — 60K miles + $100 statement credit.

Link is dead.

Julian

The link to the card here is dead as of Sep 12 2023

On another flight, the 62k plus companion fare I sent before is still going

AlaskaAir62k.com

Max

Can still get the 62k plus Companion Fare offer at alaskaair62k.com.

I had an Alaska Airlines card for years
with never any problem. I closed it 4-5 years ago. I decided to go back to the Alaska card. I have excellent credit. I filled out the application but they said they couldn’t process and would send me a letter. Why?

Ref

Got approved for my sixth consumer card so I don’t think the 5 card limit is currently being applied.

Steve

Getting “this may have expired” page after the application page briefly shows in a flash. Did they pull the offer?

Eniola

Do business cards count towards the “3/12 or 7/12 Rule: You won’t be approved if you have opened 3 or more accounts, with any bank, in the past 12 months. For those with Bank of America deposit accounts, the rule changes to 7+ accounts.”

CMathis

Personal DP: I was denied for the business card this past week. I have opened two business cards and one personal credit card in the past 12 months.

Greg The Frequent Miler

No, business cards don’t count towards that rule

Chase

Capital One business cards do, unfortunately.
