- To participate in this Offer, a minimum of one round-trip or two one-way trips are required. For clarity, a one-way trip consists of one origin and one destination (one bound) between an airport in the USA and the Eligible Destination*** in Canada. - Two one-way Eligible Scheduled Flights* booked in Economy Flex will collectively be awarded 6,000 bonus Aeroplan points. A round-trip booking, in turn, consists of two bounds: One from the USA to the Eligible Destination*** in Canada, and a second one from the Eligible Destination*** in Canada back to the USA.
- Eligible Scheduled Flights* must be the subject of a new booking, created for the first time during the Offer Period, with a new booking reference number. Any booking made prior to the start of the Offer Period that is subsequently changed to include travel dates within the Travel Period will not be considered a new booking that is eligible for the Offer.
- The departure of the first outbound trip must commence in the USA to be eligible for this Offer.
- Flight redemption bookings and bookings made with a combination of points and cash are not eligible for this Offer.
- Bonus Aeroplan points awarded through this promotion will count towards Everyday Status Qualification as part of Aeroplan Elite™ Status.
- Bonus Aeroplan points awarded are not Status Qualifying Miles (SQM).
- Bonus Aeroplan points will be credited up to six weeks after the qualifying flights have been flown.
Quick Thoughts
Based on our Reasonable Redemption Values, 6,000 Aeroplan points is worth ~$80, which could be a nice little bonus on a flight to Canada…especially since there’s no minimum price for a ticket to count (although the lowest fare class is Economy Standard).
It’s not going to be worth booking a paid round-trip flight or two one-ways just for the sake of 6,000 bonus Aeroplan points, but Air Canada can often be the cheapest and/or most convenient option for travel between the US and Canada, so earning 6,000 points is a nice little sweetener as that’s more than enough to add a free stopover onto a future award flight.
Note that registration is required and flights have to be on Air Canada metal – codeshare flights aren’t eligible. Also, although two one-ways will trigger the bonus, according to the terms, they both must originate in the US.
Soooo…. I live near Seattle and can fly to Abbotsford (abt 120~ miles) in basic, all the same day for ~$187. Gets me 6k bonus plus whatever for the buy.
Is this worthwhile? I did a run a few years ago on a JetBlue thing that got be 75k but that was a bigger payoff.
Thoughts please?
Looks like Basic Economy is not included for anyone considering cheap flights. I normally eschew Basic Economy but the cancellation and changes fees are really high for Air Canada transborder (and West Jet as well) on anything below Flex fare classes anyway. With a $100 CAD fee you are losing most of your ticket’s value on low cost fares. Air Canada automatically assigns seats together for those travelling with young children which avoids the high seat selection fee with Basic tickets. May be worth just buying the Standard fare with this promo as a cheap way to buy AC points.
Does this include booking with points? When I click on the registration link, I seem to have that option…
The terms exclude points bookings: Flight redemption bookings and bookings made with a combination of points and cash are not eligible for this Offer.
I have no idea if that’s enforced, but I would guess so?
Does it seem like this is per aeroplan member? Like if three people were on the same round trip booking, that’s 18,000 points in total?
yes i just registered all 4 in my family. We are making a run across the border for our Nexus interviews so this works out perfectly.
Nice. I’ve been delaying booking a trip to Toronto in October, but maybe now is the time to jump. I was planning on using points, but maybe I’ll book with cash instead. P2 has the aeroplan card too, so I can calculate which makes more sense with the idea that she could cash out points at 1.25 cents each.
