Quick Thoughts
Flying Blue Promo Rewards can be a good way to score a nice deal on flights to/from Europe. Note that while we report on the discounts between the US and Europe, they also run Promo Rewards within Europe and to other intercontinental destinations beyond, so it can be worth a look if you’re going to visit Europe and are also seeking a deal to another region.
The economy class Promo Rewards are always popular, particularly if we see a transfer bonus that coincides. That said, I find the Premium Economy and Business Class deals to be even more compelling if you are able to take advantage of them.
Keep in mind that Flying Blue offers a 25% discount on long-haul awards for kids ages 2-11. We’ve booked Air France Business Class a few times now because of that discount, which also applies to discounted Promo Rewards pricing. In other words, 1 adult and 1 kid traveling in economy class costs less than 33K total miles one-way, or 1 adult and 1 kid in business class rings in at less than 79K one way on one of these promo rewards. Those can make for fantastic deals, though keep in mind that the child discount doesn’t apply to the award taxes & fees, which are not insignificant (though still relatively moderate) with Flying Blue. You’ll get a far better deal on those fees departing the US than departing Europe.
If you’re planning a summertime trip to Europe, you can also score some deals on intra-European flights. While Virgin Atlantic will offer better pricing for awards on Air France or KLM in some instances, the Promo Rewards will be better in others. Keep in mind that Flying Blue does allow stopovers on Promo Rewards, so if you want to add a few days in Paris or Amsterdam, Promo Rewards could be a better deal.

Ottawa… YOWza! I’m surprised AF has a nonstop from there to CDG. 777. Huh!
