Alternate Alaska card offer: 60K miles + 30% flight discount code

1

The current best offer on the personal Alaska Airlines credit card awards 75,000 bonus miles when spending $3,000 in 90 days. There’s an alternate offer available via the Alaska Airlines website that only awards 60,000 bonus miles but which could be preferable for the right person as it also comes with a 30% flight discount code. For most people though, the code has so many limitations that it’ll be hard to get enough value from it to make it worthwhile.

Quick Thoughts

For the majority of people, this offer won’t make any sense. However, we wanted to share about it in case you happened to see it on Alaska’s website and were tempted by the potential savings on offer.

The main reason that the appeal of this alternate offer will likely be limited is because you’d be forgoing 15,000 miles in order to get the 30% discount code. If you value Mileage Plan miles at 1.5 cents per point, the discount code would need to save you at least $225 which equates to a ticket costing $750 before taxes and fees. If Bank of America or Alaska Airlines does send you a 1099 for the code, that would eat into your savings even further, meaning your ticket price would need to be even higher to make it worthwhile.

That’s not the only thing to consider. While a 30% discount could sound appealing if you know you’ll need to book an expensive flight, the code has a ton of limitations.

For starters, it’s only valid on one reservation for one person. If you’ll be traveling with others, their ticket will have to be booked separately which could be a hassle in the event of irregular operations.

Another issue is the timeframe involved. Although you’ll receive the discount code within 10 days of opening the card (rather than having to wait until after you’ve met the minimum spend requirement), you have to book by September 30 and it’s only valid for travel from September 6-November 19, 2025. Eligible flights are only for certain days of the week and First Class and certain economy fares are excluded. The fact that First Class tickets are excluded limits the potential upside of this offer.

The 30% flight discount code is also only valid in North America, but bear in mind that doesn’t limit it to only flights in the US. For example, you could redeem the code for flights to/from Mexico, the Bahamas, Costa Rica and more.

Overall though, you’ll likely do much better with the 75k offer.
