American Airlines makes it easier for elites re-qualify for status in 2021

American Airlines has introduced three elite status promotions for those who currently have elite status.  One Mile at a Time summarizes the promos as follows:

  • Bonus Elite Qualifying Dollars (EQDs) with no flying requirements, ranging from 500 to 3,000 EQDs depending on your status.
    • Gold: 500 EQDs
    • Platinum: 1,000 EQDs
    • Platinum Pro: 1,500 EQDs
    • Executive Platinum and Concierge Key: 3,000 EQDs
  • Bonus Elite Qualifying Miles (EQMs) for upcoming flying, ranging from 2,500 to 10,000 bonus EQMs depending on status.
    • Gold: 250 EQMs per segment
    • Platinum: 500 EQMs per segment
    • Platinum Pro: 750 EQMs per segment
    • Executive Platinum and Concierge Key: 1,000 EQMs per segment
  • The ability to purchase bonus Elite Qualifying Miles (EQMs) for $495, ranging from 2,500 to 10,000 bonus EQMs (and you earn EQDs for the purchase).
    • Gold: 2,500 EQMs
    • Platinum: 5,000 EQMs
    • Platinum Pro: 7,500 EQMs
    • Executive Platinum and Concierge Key: 10,000 EQMs

Registration is required for each promotion.  After logging into AA.com, go to your promotions tab for details and to register for each promotion.

These new promotions are on top of the things AA has already done to make achieving elite status easier in 2021:

  • Roll over of elite earnings from Q4 2020 (Oct-Dec 2020)
  • Reduced elite requirements by about 20%
  • Earn an Elite Qualifying Dollars (EQDs) Waiver, up to Platinum Pro status, with $30K spend on qualifying AA cards.
