About this time last year, some Uber users with the American Express Platinum card noticed that their $15 ($35 in December) monthly Uber credits weren’t being automatically applied.
Instead, the credits were being added to their Uber Cash balance but not being applied automatically. American Express and Uber have now changed this setup to ensure that the monthly credit from the Platinum card is used first.
This is a positive update for Uber users that were affected because the $15/$35 credit expires at the end of each month. If you only used Uber or Uber Eats once or twice per month, it could be easy to overlook that your credit wasn’t applied until it was too late and had expired.
There’s nothing you need to do in order to have the monthly credit be used first – Uber will automatically apply it to your first ride/order each month, with any remaining balance being used towards your next ride/order that month.
I believe you do need to update your Uber app for this change to take effect.
Good change, though they used to do this before the change last year, so just undoing that change, which was a super-sneaky way of lowering the benefit cost for AMEX. Like many people I had my default payment set to the AMEX card, so they were effectively depriving me of the benefit if I didn’t know or remember to change the default payment to Uber Cash. Months went by before I realized my AMEX credits were being expired even though I was actively using Uber.
