Follow along here!

Avianca has sent out an email offer to some LifeMiles members with increased signup bonuses on the Banco Popular Avianca Vuela and Avianca Vida Visa cards with promo code LM17WB. The promo code isn’t unique and when they offered a promo code last year, it worked for anyone who was approved for the card. It is likely that this code is available to anyone, but YMMV. The promo code brings the signup bonus on the $59-fee Vida card to 40,000 miles after first purchase and the bonus on the $149-fee Vuela vard to 60,000 miles after first purchase.

Quick Thoughts

According to reports from people who have previously had these cards, you can not be approved if you have previously had either card. There are also plenty of reports on the general difficulty of being approved, though Doctor of Credit lists a reconsideration phone number (844-343-1010). Still, if you’re able to get approved, the 60K miles could be very useful. As we’ve noted before, Avianca offers one-way flights within specific zones of the USA for 7500 miles one-way in economy class and offers United domestic first class for 15,000 miles one-way within US 1 and US 2, which covers well over half of the states in the USA (See: Best options for domestic first class awards). Both of those spots can offer significant value for people who often fly between smaller airports and can find saver availability with United. Furthermore, Avianca has a nice award chart with no fuel surcharges.

Additionally, Avianca is a Citi ThankYou points transfer partner, meaning that it’s easy to top off your account if you have ThankYou points. They are also an SPG transfer partner.

While this one might not be an easy approval, there is no minimum spending requirement. That makes the offer very strong for those who can get it. As always, you can find links to these and other cards on our Best Offers page. Note that while the application page shows 20K/40K offers, you enter the promo code during the application process in order to trigger the 20K bonus miles.
