(EXPIRED) Bank of America Spending Offers On Amtrak Cards (& Possibly Others?)

We recently covered spending bonuses being issued by Citi and Barclays; now Bank of America is getting in on the act. A reader has let us know about a couple of different targeted offers that she and her husband received on their Amtrak cards which are pretty generous considering how much Amtrak points are worth.

The Deal

• Bank of America is sending targeted spending offers such as the following:
  • Earn 5,000 bonus Amtrak Guest Rewards points when spending $2,500 between March 1 and April 30, 2020.
  • Earn 4,000 bonus Amtrak Guest Rewards points when spending $2,000 between March 1 and April 30, 2020.

Quick Thoughts

If you have an Amtrak card and were targeted for one of these offers (or a similar offer), it’s definitely worth considering. The offers represent two bonus points per dollar spent in addition to the one point you receive anyway. With the first offer you’d therefore earn a total of 7,500 points, while with the second you’d earn 6,000 points.

Amtrak points are worth up to 2.56 cpp on Acela trains and up to 2.9cpp on other routes. The points earned by meeting the spending requirements would therefore be worth $192-$217.50 for the $2,500 offer and $153.60-$174 for the $2,000 offer. Those are excellent returns if you can easily meet those spending requirements and can make use of the Amtrak points.

Bank of America might be sending offers like these on some of their other cards, so keep an eye on your emails in case other types of cards are targeted. It would be especially nice to see similar offers on Alaska cards.
