In addition to the Uber/Best Buy gift card deal, Best Buy has returned with its somewhat frequent gift card promotion where you can get a free $15 savings code when purchasing a $150 eGift card. The $15 code is a promo card that expires, so don’t sit on it for too long.

Quick Thoughts

This type of Best Buy gift card deal seems to come and go every few months. The bonus is a $15 savings code that expires, rather than being a regular $15 gift card that doesn’t expire.

That limits its usefulness and makes the deal a bit more of a hassle and, in theory, means it’s only good for personal use seeing as the $15 codes can’t be resold. Having said that, I saw reports last time they ran this promotion that it’s still possible to purchase third party gift cards in store with the savings codes. Some (or all???) Best Buy stores are now selling Amazon gift cards, so that could be a good option for liquidating these codes if it is indeed possible to still use them for purchasing other gift cards.

Despite the fact that the transactions are processed by CashStar, I think you’re still eligible to earn Best Buy Rewards seeing as it gives you an option to enter your membership number when checking out. If you purchase the maximum of $450, you’d earn $4.50-$11.25 worth of rewards depending on your membership level.
