Quick Thoughts
The Frequent Miler Fair Trading Price for Avios is currently 1.14cpp, so buying Avios at this price isn’t necessarily a good deal as the purchase price is slightly higher than that.
34,000 Avios for ~$525 has the potential to provide some good value though, especially as you can buy multiples of each option (other than 2,000 Avios).
Having said that, we don’t generally recommend buying miles unless you have specific high value awards in mind.
If you need to top up your Iberia Plus Avios balance any further, they’re also a transfer partner of Chase Ultimate Rewards, American Express Membership Rewards and Starwood Preferred Guest.
If you can get good value out of this Groupon, it’d be best to buy quickly as the site says they’re about to run out.
Good Morning all Iberia “Plus” lurkers. I did the original deals from about 2 years ago. Payments from US has to go thru PayPal. Several of my purchase didn’t go thru but charges did. Iberia no help (they were on siesta) Groupon worse as to no help (they just did not care and do not want to hear from customers) I filed a dispute on PayPal which saved me and many others, we got our money back. This originally reported on The Points Guy (J T Gitner). There is a huge thread on Flyertalk. I am writing this because Gregs site is and always has been the best and most honest and helpful. Because his brilliant deals were dying because of publicity he now has had to go under radar (Frequent Travler U) Don’t do this Iberia Groupon deal.
Before anyone invests any real money in this deal I would buy a 2000 pack and try to redeem it and get the miles in Iberia first. It is impossible.
I bought a pack last offer and tried but eventually it expired. Texted GroupOn today and they gave me a new pack on this deal. Followed instructions, over, and over, for 2 hours. Will not work.
This is 35% above your own Fair Trading Price for Avios – where’s the value?
Can you transfer BA Avios to Iberia+ account? How?
Only the 2000 mile buy is a great deal. Why you can only get one of them.
You can transfer as long as your accounts have been open 90 days and have activity in them. Avios are interchangeable.
It’s a good value *if* you have specific purchases in mind, and if you go through the Iberia+ shopping portal to get bonus Avios. For instance, Iberia ORD-MAD is on sale for 51K r/t in business class (+$240 tax). If you bought three 34K packages for $1,575, that’s 2 round trip tickets in business class for <$1,000 each. Plus some bonus Avios that could get you another 500 ticket somewhere. ORD – MAD during the sale dates is running $600 – $1000, so you're basically paying up to $400 (and maybe nothing) for lie-flat seats and lounge access…*IF* you can use that flight.
Points/miles valuations should be considered a guide based on *average* redemptions, ease of acquisition, ease of use, and risk of devaluation. But their true value is always "what are you going to use them for right now."
How to use this coupon
Use your phone
Open your coupon with the App and show it when you arrive
Print a coupon
Print your coupon from your home and take it with you.
I did this for 2000 on the last promo of this. The points never came through. No idea how to use the “coupon”. Instructions:
Buy the Avios 2 coupons.
In order for the purchased Avios to be loaded into your Iberia Plus account you must click here and enter: * security code of your coupon * code of your coupon * number of your Iberia Plus 3 card.
Once the previous step has been completed, your Avios will be loaded on your Iberia Plus card within 10 business days, to be used whenever you want. Validity You have until March 6 to exchange your coupon for your Avios.
Has anyone done this or at least understand it?
Groupon Spain has good instructions for it. I have done this in the past, and all posted (though Iberia+ store “bonus” Avios take about 4 months to post).
