Quick Thoughts
This could be a fantastic deal in the right scenario.
I was targeted for the top end at 45% off the purchase of points.
This means that if I purchase 3,000 points or more, I’ll pay justĀ 0.715c per pointĀ ($0.00715). That’s a fantastic deal for Wyndham points!
Our Reasonable Redemption Value for Wyndham points is 1.01c per point. It is possible to do even better in some cases.
Personally, this sale caught my eye because of an upcoming trip where I could book a Vacasa vacation rental. Specifically, after seeing the sale, I looked up a 3-bedroom Vacasa rental that would run about $634 per night all-in with taxes and fees. That means the average nightly rate is about $211 per bedroom per night. Wyndham charges 15,000 points per bedroom per night for Vacasa rentals costing up to $250 per bedroom per night. That means it would cost me 45,000 points per night to book this particular rental. If I were to buy the points on sale right now, at 0.715c per point, it would cost $321.75 per night to buy the points for that rental —Ā almost 50% off the cash rate.
That wasn’t a cherry-picked example but rather a real one that I found with about 2.5 minutes of effort. There are surely plenty of other Vacasa situations where you might be able to get somewhere in the vicinity of 1.5c per point. See full details about booking Vacasa vacation rentals with Wyndham Rewards points in this post.
Of course you may do even better if you find the right deal for a hotel. I nearly booked the Wyndham New Yorker for a trip to the city at some point this fall when cash rates were outrageous and it would have yielded around 2c per point. Under normal circumstances, that property is probably only a lukewarm deal even with sale-price points, but it really depends on your dates. Keep in mind that Wyndham also has a number of timeshare-type vacation club properties, many of which are bookable with points. There are also some all-inclusive properties in the Caribbean that could be a good deal depending on dates.
If you’re into a tiny bit of arbitrage, with this sale you could buy 60,000 points for $429 if you’re targeted for the 45%-off rate. I believe that you can still transfer 60,000 points from Wyndham to Caesars through the end of the year (oddly, my Caesars account already reflects the 30,000-point cap for a transfer to Wyndham, which is going to be the new cap beginning in 2025, but the Wyndham side still shows the ability to transfer 60,000 points to Caesars). Caesars points can then be used at a value of $0.01 per point for a lot of things, including room rates, some show tickets, and even betting with rewards via the Caesars Sportsbook app.
The Wyndham Earner Business card can make earning Wyndham points relatively easy given its 8x points at gas stations and 5x on utilities. Still, I might buy some points in this sale as the 0.715c price point and low effort required.
Notably, the annual limit for purchasing points has been increased to 200,000 points for this sale (the current annual limit is typically 100,000 purchased points). Sure enough, I see the ability to buy 200,000 points for $1,430.
I don’t know as though I’ll buy 200K points, but it’s great to see points available in such a useful quantity. That could be enough for a nice length of stay even if you’re buying the points for the whole thing.
Any data points on how long it took for points to post on your first purchase?

As a side-note, this offer really de-values Wyndham SUBs. Even the historic high of 100k offer is only worth $715, if you got the top 45% offer.
I only got the 35% deal and would be buying speculatively, but have used all my Wyndham points in the past. So it’s possible it would still be worth it. Would it make more sense to buy the points with my CSR or my Wyndham Biz Earners? Does anyone know if buying Wyndham points would code as travel (3x) for CSR?
It’s processed by points.com and does not code as travel or Wyndham. Use a card that maximizes everyday spend.
I wish these programs would stop with the constant up and down pricing. I needed points for a Vacasa stay next year and loaded up on the last sale, even though I wasn’t even targeted for the top offer. At $0.87 cpp it was still lower than all the prices we had seen this year. Now just one week later I’m targeted for the best version of this deal at $0.71. Whether my original purchase was a good deal or not, it makes me much less likely to ever do these points deals when I end up feeling kind of cheated. I know BF/CM deals are just marketing hype, but when you constantly lower the bar, it just makes me want to stop guessing and opt out.
I totally agree. There are no refunds or price-matching in this aspect either, leading to a feeling of ‘devaluation’.
Wyndham comes up with a good points sale and just a week later (unnatural for points sales which usually happens months apart) here comes another.
If only they have some good all-inclusive properties on par with Hyatt.
Anyone has experience with booking Wyndham all inclusive on points with more than two people? Trying to understand what extra charges to expect for two Pre-K aged kids.
Stayed at Wyndham Altra in Cancun this summer for 5 nights with points. Had to pay $327 to cover my 4 year old daughter.
This is good info, thank you. How did you / your daughter like the hotel. I imagine they’ll charge about the same for a 5 year old.
It was a great stay for us. It wasn’t absurdly luxurious or anything, but the pools were fun, beach was great, and lots of kids around for my daughter to play with. Food was decent and the staff was friendly. I’d definitely go back.
Any concern that Wyndham is going to devalue the Vacasa awards again? This is the second great sale in the row, both a major improvement from the previous best offers ~0.95 cents/points. Iām targeted for the 45% offer this time and considering a speculative purchase. Iāll definitely use the points in the next year or so. Any thoughts?
I kinda feel using Wyndham points for Vacasa is already devalued – have you seen the ridiculous cleaning fees? And Vacasa fees adding to take many good properties just over $500 to make them unbookable.
In theory the sweet spots are properties with a nightly rate just below $250 or just below $500, neither of which is widespread. Also there isn’t a predictable % for cleaning fees – it’s almost as of they picked a number to just put it out of the $250/night or $500/night numbers.
I could be wrong, but I would find it really, really surprising if there were enough people using Wyndham Rewards points to book Vacasa vacation rentals stays to make up more than a rounding error in their bottom line. Imagine the total number of Wyndham Rewards members, then the percentage of those members who have any significant number of points, then the percentage of that percentage that has both heard of Vacasa and knows that they can use their Wyndham Rewards points to book Vacasa and then the percentage of that percentage who actually need to book a Vacasa rental at any given time. It is hard to imagine that there would be enough Vacasa bookings using Wyndham points to influence their pricing engine more than the need to be competitive with Airbnb / Vrbo / etc.
Hi Nick, thanks for the reply. But my concern was that they might change the award thresholds (ex: moving from $250 to $200). It wasn’t long ago that 15k got a $500 1 bed night, then $350 which was apparently still too high. Seems clear that Wyndham wants to keep the cash to point purchase spread within a certain rate. And with this steep sale that spread is getting wider again. In fact, comparing this 0.715 cents/point sale at the current $250 threshold to the old 0.95 cents/point sale with the $350 threshold the spread is now almost the same – max discount now 57% vs max discount then 59%.
Vacasa via Wyndham definitely got devalued with the limit to $350 per bedroom per night and now $250. For Hawaii, I switched to Wyndham branded properties as you can get a really nice place (although not on the beach) for 13.5k points.
I tend to think of Vacasa as ~20% overpriced. Having looked at a lot of places and price comped I think that’s roughly the mark up compared to Airbnb. I have yet to find a single instance where booking Vacasa at the cash price would make sense over available Airbnbs. But even considering that you can still get great value purchasing points and staying with Vacasa. I do really wish they would modify their worst-in-class 4pm checkin 10am checkout.
I’d buy 200k points now if Wyndham didn’t have a hard expiration date. :/
We’re talking 200k pts over four years.
I don’t mind staying at budget motels like at Super 8 and Travelodge. Those usually aren’t worth redeeming 6750 or 13,500 Wyndham points for when a room costs $60 to $100. I redeem during special events when cash prices are high. Also, hopefully in Hawaii some day.
I know Iām cherry picking a bad example, but a La Quinta in Santa Cruz CA is 30k/night. The all in cost for a day next week is $137. Thatās 0.45cpp!
At least with Hilton you canāt usually go below .45 and can buy them for .5. So maybe Iāll buy some just on the off chance I can still find a Vacasa under $500 but feels very speculative even at ā45% offā
Flat redemption option can work both ways. Wyndham in Newport, RI is 30k pts a night. It’s $120ish dollars a night now, but around $1200 for two weekend nights in July (they require 2+ night stay at certain times). My spouse likes that place, so I booked a weekend in July for 54k pts (10% off with the card). Cpp value is somewhat meaningless for me here, because I would not pay $1200 out of pocket for that stay, but with this sale I can get 54k pts for $386. That’s an incredible deal for that property in the summer.
Interesting. Well maybe Iāll speculate on points even though I already have 100k that Iām having a hard time using with where Iāve been traveling
Anyone else noticed vacasa properties have significantly increased cash prices? The same property that was going for $400/night is now at $600-$650 per night. Even the lower priced properties are right above $250 mark making it a 30,000 point per night. Still cheaper to buy points at 0.715cpp than book with cash. I would not buy it at the 0.9-0.97 rate sale which was more common deal earlier this year. But 0.715 is a good bargain
I haven’t specifically noticed that. First one I looked at earlier was the 211 per bedroom per night that I mentioned in the post. That said, the price of hotels has also gone up by about that much over the last couple of years, so I believe it. I went to New York City recently for the weekend and cash rates of hotels that used to regularly be ~$200 a night are now easily $400 to $500 a night on a weekend.
Ah yes. I should have mentioned i was comparing it to last year in May. So about 30-50% more in the 2 years.
I have a few favorite places I’ve tracked over time and haven’t seen any abnormal price increases.
thanks for sharing. Good to know!
Only got 40%. I have enough points already.
