A couple of days ago, Chase provided the opportunity for Sapphire Reserve®, Sapphire Preferred®, Sapphire Reserve for Business®, and J.P. Morgan Reserve® cardholders to buy up to forty tickets to this year’s World Cup.
Unfortunately, very few people were able to snag even one.
It looks like there may be a bright side to the frustration, though. Doctor of Credit reports that Chase is giving cardholders who complain 5,000 Ultimate Rewards points as a “courtesy” for the frustration.

The sale required you to click a button on the promo page, then wait in a queue for a unique ticket link that took you to FIFA’s website to sign in and view tickets. Each step in that process was overwhelmed with traffic and would error-out, making it extremely cumbersome to work through.
I kept getting kicked out of the initial queue, then after re-entering multiple times over an hour or so, finally got into the FIFA site to find out that inventory had been stripped bare. It never occurred to me to call Chase and complain, but that’s why it takes a village.
Doctor of Credit called Chase at 800-436-7970, told the agent they had been repeatedly kicked off during the first hour of the sale, and were frustrated with the experience. The agent came back and said that 5,000 points had been added to the account.
This isn’t a one-off, as I’m seeing numerous data points from other cardholders who have succeeded by doing the same thing, always receiving 5,000 points. I have no idea whether Chase can tell if you were actually in the queue for the sale, but I’ll leave that up to them to sort out.
Regardless, it’s a nice customer service gesture for what was a frustrating experience for many of us.

Strike 3 for Chase. They really are a dishonest company!
Please take down your post as you are spreading arguably false and at minimum, misleading information.
Deal ended on the 13th. Ridiculous that Chase is getting credit for policy they aren’t honoring and didn’t inform customers about. Please modify your post. Basically gives incentive for people to complain and to possibly lie while customers such as myself who waited an hour and half and didn’t obtain tickets got zero.
Deal dead…. Ended on 2/13
Dumb me. Had it on my radar to make this call a couple days ago. Kept forgetting. Called this morning. No dice, as courtesy offer was discontinued either last night or this morning. Tried twice, but same response.
On stuff like this, can’t delay a moment.
just called 1st agent were hostile, she wanted me to remember my full experience in detailed from 3 days ago. To be fair I did register at 9am pst sharp but had said the website crashed out due to 403 errors, I said I was trying to get 3 tickets and she said neither of my information is accurate and she acknowledge any online posts about courtesy points
Done, took less than 5 mins. Thanks for the tip! Husband did it too
Just called. You MUST have a Sapphire Reserve card to get the 5K points.
We have Sapphire Preferred and got 5K each. You should try to called again. You might get different rep.
WOOT! 5 minutes to do a phone call and the easiest 5k points I ever got! Thanks for posting about this!
Quick call. Friendly rep. Instantly knew about the 5k bonus points for the FIFA issue. Off the call in less than 3 minutes and points hit account. Thank you Chase for doing right by us!
Called Sapphire Preferred line this morning. No wait. No fuss. 5k points posted instantly
No wait, 2 mins total for the call. They were definitely reading a script.
Called and zero wait time. Rep asked me if I was calling about the 5000 courtesy points that’s been posted about on media. They know it’s been posted. I said I was calling bc I was frustrated. She laughed and gave me the points. I’m hoping my account isn’t flagged.
Phone queue to talk to a Chase Sapphire (not Reserve) customer satisfaction agent is being reported to me as >50 minutes.
A friend just called and also got 5K UR points (‘not bad for just a phone call’).
Got My 5k!!! Waited 3 mins to reach an agent.
