Chase giving 5k courtesy points to those who got shut out from the World Cup

8

A couple of days ago, Chase provided the opportunity for Sapphire Reserve®, Sapphire Preferred®, Sapphire Reserve for Business®, and J.P. Morgan Reserve® cardholders to buy up to forty tickets to this year’s World Cup.

Unfortunately, very few people were able to snag even one.

It looks like there may be a bright side to the frustration, though. Doctor of Credit reports that Chase is giving cardholders who complain 5,000 Ultimate Rewards points as a “courtesy” for the frustration.

The sale required you to click a button on the promo page, then wait in a queue for a unique ticket link that took you to FIFA’s website to sign in and view tickets. Each step in that process was overwhelmed with traffic and would error-out, making it extremely cumbersome to work through.

I kept getting kicked out of the initial queue, then after re-entering multiple times over an hour or so, finally got into the FIFA site to find out that inventory had been stripped bare. It never occurred to me to call Chase and complain, but that’s why it takes a village.

Doctor of Credit called Chase at 800-436-7970, told the agent they had been repeatedly kicked off during the first hour of the sale, and were frustrated with the experience. The agent came back and said that 5,000 points had been added to the account.

This isn’t a one-off, as I’m seeing numerous data points from other cardholders who have succeeded by doing the same thing, always receiving 5,000 points. I have no idea whether Chase can tell if you were actually in the queue for the sale, but I’ll leave that up to them to sort out.

Regardless, it’s a nice customer service gesture for what was a frustrating experience for many of us.

So sweet, to say the least!!! Saw this and just called add said I tried to purchase tickets for the World Cup through their website but it was unable to. She asked how far I got and I said when I selected their provided button, nothing happened. She then said it was a glitch on their side and deposited 5k UR points!! Thanked her and hung up. I checked my account and there is the additional points!!

Waited 5 minutes or less on hold.

DP: I did in fact waste an hour the day of trying to get the page to load, but wasn’t asked for any verification on that. I called the number on the card, waited about 10-15 minutes, and then explained the situation. At first, the rep basically told me tough luck, but then I made it clear that I was very unhappy with the situation and the ordeal was a big inconvenience for me (which it actually was). After expressing my frustration, the rep offered the points which posted immediately.

Both me and p2 received 5,000.

I never even made it to the FIFA site before giving up yesterday.
