Choice Privileges promo: Stay twice & earn minimum of 8,000 points (redeem for $50 gift card option)

Choice Hotels has returned with its annual summer promo that ensures you earn at least 8,000 points after staying twice, while also giving you an option to redeem those points for a $50 gift card.

• The number of bonus points awarded depends on the number of base points earned from the two separate qualifying stays, with points varying by hotel. The total of base points plus bonus points awarded, however, will be at least 8,000 points, which is the number of points required to redeem for a $50 gift card from participating retailers (see list below; list subject to change).
• Members may take advantage of this offer a maximum of four times during the Offer period, although the member may continue to earn base points (and any Elite bonuses) on subsequent qualifying stays.
• A selection of gift cards is available at the discounted redemption rate of 8,000 points from 5/19/2025 through 9/2/2025. Members will have 60 days after the promotion ends to redeem their points for a $50 gift card at the reduced point level. Beginning 11/1/2025, the $50 gift cards will return to their standard redemption.
• This Offer is not applicable to groups and cannot be combined with any other discounts, special offers or promotions. To be eligible to earn bonus points, members must set their earning preference to Choice Privileges points in their online account. Any change made to earning preference will remain in effect after the promotion has ended unless the member changes it. Bonus points are not subject to any Elite bonus.
• The Offer is only valid for qualifying stays, which exclude rooms booked below certain rates, reward night stays, complimentary rooms, rooms paid for as part of a convention or meeting, wholesale packages, group tours, and stays booked using the employee discount or the friends, family and associate discount.
• Members must book stays via choicehotels.com , the Choice Hotels® mobile app, or 800.4CHOICE. Stays directly booked through Book by Google are also eligible, if the member adds their Choice Privileges number to the reservation prior to check-in. Corporate travelers may book through their online booking tool, GDS, or with a travel agent; however, reservations booked through Egencia’s Preferred Rate Program do not qualify for bonus points. Choice Privileges member number must be provided upon check-in. Allow four weeks from check-out for points to post.
• In the United States, the eligible gift cards are Amazon, Applebee’s, Fandango, Mastercard, Shell and Walmart. In Canada, the eligible gift cards are Canadian Tire, Petro Canada, Indigo, Lululemon, Sobeys and Ultimate Dining card.

Quick Thoughts

This new promotion runs in much the same way as in previous years. If you’re not familiar with these Choice promos, they’re marketed as you earning a $50 gift card or 8,000 bonus points. The thing is, neither of those things are true, strictly speaking.

After staying twice within the promo period, Choice Privileges will top up the number of points you earn to ensure you end up with at least 8,000 points total, with a minimum of 5,000 bonus points on offer.

You earn 10 points per dollar as standard on stays, so let’s say you book two stays of one night each, both of which cost $75 before taxes and fees. You’d earn 750 points per night for a total of 1,500 points. Choice will therefore award 6,500 bonus points to top you up to the 8,000 point level. Seeing as these promos are only valid on paid stays, it would be impossible to earn 8,000 bonus points on two stays seeing as you’ll always have some element of base earnings that’ll reduce the maximum number of points that’ll get awarded.

If you were to book two stays which, say, cost a total of $600, you’d earn 6,000 base points. Rather than only earning 2,000 points to take you to the 8,000 point level, Choice will add 5,000 bonus points which is the minimum number of bonus points available.

As for the $50 gift card element, that’s optional. During the promo period and for 60 days beyond, you can choose to redeem 8,000 points for a $50 gift card for Amazon, Applebee’s, Fandango, Mastercard, Shell or Walmart. You don’t have to redeem for a gift card though; you can simply keep the points and redeem them for award stays in the future.

You can earn the bonus points up to four times through September 2, 2025, so you’d max this promo out after a total of eight stays.
